The Parish Budget for Fiscal Year 2014 (7/1/13 - 6/30/14) is based on the giving of our faith family for Fiscal Year 2013. The portion of our budget contributed in envelopes, checks and loose cash is $1,727.640.00 or $32,597.00 per week. Contributions for the 34th weekend of the fiscal year were $26,449.00.00. In the 34th week of our fiscal year, our budgeted goal for ministry programs and ordinary operating expense is $1,108,297.00 and our collections are $1,160,638.00. We encourage everyone to prayerfully consider using the Capital Improvement Envelope in your packet to help recover the renovation of St. Bakhita Hall.
May God bless you in your sacrificial giving. Lord, help me move from comfort to sacrifice.
How shall I make a return to the Lord for all the good He has done for me? (Psalm 116:12)

From the Pastor
FROM THE PASTOR MARCH 2, 2014 LENT We begin Lent this Wednesday, March 5th with Ash Wednesday services at 8:30 a.m., 10:30 a.m school Mass, 12:15 p.m and 5:30 p.m. Remember that Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are days of fast and abstinence from meat. In addition, all the Fridays of Lent are days of abstinence and sacri-fice in commemoration of the passion and death of Our Savior. We use the Rice Bowls from Catholic Relief Services as one way to offer the value of whatever we give up in Lent to help the hungry around the world. We will also begin the soup suppers, Lenten Reflections and Stations of the Cross this Friday with our guest presenter Father Christopher Zugger from Our Lady of Perpetual Help Byzantine Catholic Church. Father Zugger will offer our Lenten Reflections each Friday of Lent at 7:00 p.m. just prior to the Stations of the Cross. In addition we begin the Living the Eucharist groups this week as well. Please take advantage of these opportunities for spiritual growth and renewal throughout the holy season of Lent. MEN’S CONFERENCE
The annual Men Under Construction Conference will be offering a Lenten Retreat Day on Saturday, April 5, 2014 from 7:00 a.m. to 4:40 p.m. at St. Pius High School. ties as well as opportunities for reconciliation and the celebration of Holy Mass. The cost is $30 in advance or $35 at the door. To learn more about the retreat you may log on to www.mucnm.com or call 831-8253. Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults – RCIA
Renee Pagan – Coordinator
The Period of Purification and Enlightenment: In the early Church, baptisms only occurred at Easter, so the
weeks before Easter were a focused time for catechumens. This period evolved to what we know as Lent.
Today, for catechumens and candidates, the role of Lent as a period of final preparation for initiation has
been renewed. This stage begins with the Rite of Election, which normally occurs on the First Sunday of Lent. Catechumens and
candidates are presented to the Archbishop at the cathedral. The catechumen’s names are inscribed in a Book of the Elect, and
candidates commit to continuing conversion. The Rite of Sending that precedes this happens in our parish, which signifies that
the Pastor and the parishioners accompany the catechumens and candidates with their prayers and encouragement.
