Foreword by theFounder and Chairman
Like you, I believe that every child
matters. That so many childrenaround the world still lack the access
to a decent education is intolerable.
Providing children with an exemplary
education is not a matter of
processing forms through the same
educational template. Nor can we
tackle the problems governments
face all around the world if we do
not address their individual needs
and understand where they are
in their journey to deliver better
quality education.
We know what is involved because
we have been running a successful
education company for over 50 years.
We have advised governments,
corporations, schools and parents on
delivering the high quality education
that is right for them.
GEMS Education Solutions is a
specialist education consultancy
providing strategy, consulting and
programme implementation across
the education sector. As part of GEMS
Education, GEMS Education Solutions
draws upon the resources of the
groups global school network and
educational expertise.
Demand for our services is high in
India, East Asia and Africa, as well as
in the USA, UK and Eastern Europe.
Governments want to raise standards
of education but cannot move fast
enough to meet demand. This is
where we can help. The challenge
can only be met by creating an
environment in which private and
public sectors work in partnership.
GEMS uniquely enables parents to
choose a school and curriculum suitedto their personal needs. More than
99% of students at our private schools
with the lowest fees have gone to
university. These are schools where
the annual tuition fee is $1500.
The results speak for themselves.
GEMS students have gone to a dozen
of the top 15 universities in the world
and 36 of the top 50 universities in the
United States.
We believe that a quality education is
about Ad Vitam Paramus preparing
for life. The GEMS approach to
learning is one which focuses not
only on academic excellence but also
on helping students develop their
character, values, personal leadership
and the spirit of enterprise necessary
for them achieve their full potential
as global citizens.
GEMS values-driven education isexpressed through our four core
values which are woven into every
curriculum oered by GEMS schools
and are at the core of our DNA:
World Citizenship
Empowering students with a
global and local perspective
Universal Values
Accepting that we are all
dierent, recognising that
we are all the same
Leadership
Developing each students
individuality and entrepreneurial
spirit to discover their potential
Forward Thinking
Our educational programmeshelp students to become exible
thinkers able to question existing
thinking, adapt and meet the
demands of the future
Through GEMS four core values
GEMS schools are heavily focused on
philanthropy. Each school has their
own charitable activities that fall
under the Varkey GEMS Foundation.
100 underprivileged children will
benet for every student enrolled
at a GEMS school. We are honoured
to have former U.S. President Bill
Clinton as the honorary Chair of the
Varkey GEMS Foundation.
GEMS started as a small family run
business. We are now a multinational
company with global reach and
reputation but our approach is based
on the simple principle of providing
access for all young people to better
schooling. GEMS Education is about
making education accessible to
communities around the world.
Thats why we are dierent.

ach theme, a group of our schools

and build, are highly ecient
as well as highly eective.
Client and customer careWe have always regarded our pupils
and our parents as our customers and
see it as our duty to provide the best
for them. This culture ows through
to the work we do for governments
and for other groups of schools. We
know that sometimes the school day
stretches far beyond normal school
hours so we provide invaluable round
the clock service. We have oces
all around the world and each of our
customers has a dedicated account
manager who is available for face-
to-face meetings whenever support
is needed. They can also always
be contacted by phone or email.
EMS Education Solutions supports the improvement of educational standards and expertise in public and

The Issues We Tackle
Access & EqualityWhere an educational system is
emerging, a structural overhaul is
required to ensure that every child is
given access to education regardless
of gender, religion, race or creed.
Prioritising CapitalIn countries with varying degrees
of socioeconomic wealth, the goal
for government is to prioritise
spend. It is also essential to
ensure resources are distributed
fairly for students and within
communities, treating rich and
poor proportionately to their needs,
checking that rural schools as well
as urban schools receive appropriate
resources. Research has indicated
that investing in education is good
for a countrys GDP, but countries
often nd themselves making
the wrong investment choices.
Empowering LeadershipThe quality of teaching inside an
education system is key to delivering
high quality education. The best
educational systems in the world
attract high level candidates and the
teaching profession is positioned as
a desirable career path. We work in
all areas of recruiting, training and
incentivising high quality teachers.
Investment PrioritiesNew technologies are highly relevant
for our schools so we take care to
invest in the right ones. In a digital
world of bewildering choice we
help you decide what to buy, what
to use for free through scraping
content from the bin and how to
ensure your teachers and learners
get the most from technology.
We use our experience of running
highly successful schools in nine
countries to deliver opportunities
for all. To achieve this, we provide
private education at a wide range
of fee structures making education
more aordable for more children.
Through the Varkey GEMS
Foundation and our partnerships
with other charities and public sector
bodies we seek to provide access for
more children around the world.
Travelling the long path to delivering excellent educationaloutcomes requires a key understanding of your countryseducational challenges and goals and selecting a partnerwho can best address these issues.
13
Governments want to raise standards of education but many in the developing world cannot move fast
enough to meet demand of a booming and undereducated global population. Whilst in the developed worldthere is an anxiety over global competitiveness and the changing role of education in society. This is where
we can help as education experts.
The challenge can only be met by creating an environment in which private and public sectors work in partnership.
Delivering excellent educational outcomes requires a clear understanding of the unique educational challenges
in each case. Some education problems prove persistent and cross-cultural while some are specic to a district,
municipality or country. Some of the problems our clients face include:
EQUALITY
Around 67 million children do not have access to primary school
education and another 72 million miss out on secondary school
education (ProLiteracy).
About 17% of the worlds adults 796 million people still lack basic
literacy skills. UNESCO (2011)
Students assigned to high value-added teachers are more likely to go to
college, earn higher incomes, and less likely to be teenage mothers. On
average, having such a teacher for one year raises a childs cumulative
lifetime income by $50,000 (equivalent to $9,000 in present value at
age 12 with a 5% interest rate).(Harvard University Study 2012)
We connect our knowledge and expertise to your desireto improve your educational systems.
We understand that finding your path to improvementsrequires a partner with a deep specialist knowledge ofeducation and access to international best practice.

The positive school climate and
its emphasis on high student
expectations, coupled with new

The attendance rate improved
dramatically, a direct result of
several measures put into place.
The 2010-2011 school year ended
with an overall attendance rate
of approximately 69%. In October
2011, the attendance rate hit 92%
the highest in all of Bridgeport.
Our students are excited

How does it work?
The system works with a two-way
transmission of live video footage
between a teacher in a studio and
multiple classrooms in remote parts
of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
This can be done using a broadband
connection or Very Small Aperture
Terminal (VSAT) satellite technology.
The technology enables master
