Yes, it happened four yearsago – the 2010 IIFA Awards, which took place in Colombo,

between June 3-5 – but the localsmodels are still wondering whetherthey would ever be paid!

The fashion extravaganza – apart of the 2010 IIFA Awards – fea-tured some of out top models, alongwith models from India.

During the selection process, thelocal models were asked to do their

thing for free. None agreed, and theorganizers finally decided to makepayment.

“We were told that this was aninternational event and that wewould gain international recogni-tion. But we insisted on being paidand the organizers did say ‘yes’ toour proposal,” said one of the mod-els who was a part of the IIFAscene.

“The Indian models were beinggiven five-star treatment, and paidlavishly, as well, but we were treat-ed differently,” she added.

“And when it was all over, wekept calling up the local organizers.

Yala National Park was the destination ofchoice for the ‘Explorations’ series in theLand Rover and Cinnamon Nature Trails part-

nership. Seven Land Rover vehicles, carrying their own-

ers, set off from Colombo to the wilderness of Yala. The goal was to track and find the reclusive slothbear during the three-day adventure. CinnamonWild Resort was home to the Land Rover ownersduring this period of time with a very luxu-

rious agenda, mixed in withthe wild.

The explorations serieshad a unique itinerary, spe-cially planned by the LandRover and Cinnamon NatureTrails team, for the owners.

They started with a pho-tography workshop, taughtby renowned wildlife natural-ist, Chitral Jayatilake, withan array of high-end DSLR cam-eras provided by Canon SriLanka. The excursions into Yala consisted of sixgame drives, including a Night Safari where nightvision goggles brought to light the amazing sightsof the dark jungle. During these game drives, theLand Rover owners managed to garner fourteenleopard sightings, two sloth bear sightings andstunning images of Yala’s natural beauty.

The trip to Yala National Park was truly an

adventure for the Land Rover owners filled with unexpected surprises. The many vivid sightings, within the three-day series, were unforget-table and the participants were thrilled to have experienced such rareand breathtaking moments. On the final evening, cocktails followed bythe scrumptious bush dinner organized by Cinnamon Wild Yala, con-cluded the event and garnered unforgettable memories.

The next excursion, in the Exploration series, will see LandRover owners head toTrincomalee from the 25th –27th of July, 2014, in‘Corals and Reefs’, achance to explorethe natural beau-ty of theunderwa-ter

world. Young Land Rover enthusiasts will begiven an insight into the conservation of coralsand marine life whilst experiencing ‘Snuba’ forthe first time.

Land Rover owners will stay at ChaayaBlue during the ‘Exploration’ basking in the lux-ury of the partnership between CinnamonNature Trails and Land Rover.

Various excuses were given buttheir promises never ever materi-alized.”

The model concerned went onto say that the last excuse givento them was that the officer, whohandled that event, has left theorganization.
