Our Story
Robert Mackie of Scotland are one of the leading Scottish Manufacturers of knitted
accessories, specialising in hats, gloves and scarves.
Established in 1845 to create traditional Highland Headwear, we’re still making
knitted accessories in Stewarton, Scot land’s famous ‘Bonnet Toun’. We have
passed down our knowledge through generations of makers. Our time-honoured
techniques are borne out in our products - famous for their quality and use of
colour.
We draw on the rich textile heritage of Ayrshire, Scotland to craft indulgent modern
wardrobe classics. Luxurious to the touch, our soft, warm hats, gloves and scarves
are made only with the finest wools.

Our History
We’re very proud of our heritage. Our bonnets trace their origins to the early
ceremonial headwear of Scottish regiments, and today we supply leading pipe
bands and Scottish Clan organisations around the world.
Our ‘Made in Scotland’ label stands for quality and craftsmanship. Made from pure
wool, every hat is hand-sewn to measure by one of our Scottish workers. Our
bonnet making techniques have been passed down in Stewarton through
generations; it takes years to become fully qualified in the craft.
Our Balmorals, Glengarries and Beret Tams maintain their appearance and, if dry-
cleaned or hand-washed carefully, will last a lifetime.

Our Brand
At the start of 2018 we
underwent a total brand
review and unveiled our new
logos, brochure and
packaging to reflect the
company’s aspiration of
being a market leader for
knitted accessories.
A Scottish design agency
was chosen to lead the
rebrand process working
alongside our inhouse
marketing team. The brief
was to modernize and
redefine the Mackie brand to
reflect the company while
remaining true to the
established heritage and
provenance. The aim of the
project was to ensure a
strong visual identity was
delivered, which would
accommodate the current
and future ambitions of
Robert Mackie.
