This non standard chain is a variation onDin 654 and associated with oneEuropean original equipmentmanufacturer. The chain link is producedin an uprated cast steel offering enhancedmechanical properties over the originalmalleable iron specification wherestrength and wear performance wasinsubstantial. The version utilises handedattachment with outboard carrier rollers.
Kings unique ability to produce bespokechains covering the whole spectrum ofconstruction, material and manufacturingprocesses allows the company to offerdirect replacements of “bespoke chain”.This series is a good demonstration of thiswhere the link is produced as a high carbonsteel casting with alloy steel heat treatedline bush and bolted construction. In thisprocess there is always the opportunityto introduce improvements forimproved performance and costeffectiveness.

Bagasse conveyor chains are engineering class designedto cover the entire range of Bagasse Conveyors. Thechain in ‘user-friendly’ in its dismountable construction. The swivel bracket allows for compensation for anymismatch between strands during operation. Two swivellugs can be fixed at longitudinal centres as desired(normally 4 or 6 pitch spacings).

Kings cast chain tradition has allowed them toapply expertise in the development of improvedmaterials for moving grate applications. This hostileenvironment demands a material that can performat elevated temperatures and conditions of highabrasion. In addition to the running gear, the related grate castings arealso available.

Cast pintle chains have been the traditional selectionfor juice strainers and trash elevators. Engineered steelchains have also been developed as a directalternative. (E.g. 4103 F29 and E2103) to allow forhigher mechanical characteristic and enhancedcorrosion resistance. In addition Kings plastic divisionoffer non-metallic alternatives that have provenperformance in similar applications.

Recommended Specifications forSugar Mill Cane Carriers
Cane andIntermediate Carrier Slats
There has been a progressive increase in cane throughput insugar mills with evolution in processing techniques that havecreated increased chain exposure to the sugar juice. Thesesugars are notoriously corrosive, notably within the articulatingparts of the chain, resulting in a combination of corrosion andabrasion accelerating chain wear. The increase in mechanicalharvesting and pre-washing has also increased chain exposureto corrosive conditions.
This has seen a progression towards the employment of corrosionresistant materials within chain round parts. KING has long

experience in material selection to achieve the best combination ofwear and corrosion resistance. Heat treatable ferritic stainless steeland precipitation hardening stainless steels has proven to be mosteffective in the difficult working environment encountered in wetSugar Mills.
If chains are operated in dry conditions then traditional specificationsshould be employed since the Stainless (SS) specification will notoffer the best performance where abrasion is the predominantselection criteria. The CLIMAX table combined with mill engineer’slocal experience will enable an appropriate selection to be made.
