CHATEAU LA DOUCEMEDOC Rouge (Red)

Ownership & history:Cédric Perez might have grown up in theMédoc, but wine was not his naturaldestiny. His father was a mechanic and hismother was a housewife. However, in 2006,an attraction to farming led him to buy landin the village of Saint-Yzans-de-Médoc. Hedeveloped two activities: winemaking andrearing salt marsh lamb. Today he has twohecatares of AOC Médoc vines and a flockof 600 AOC Agneau de Pauillac sheep.

Vineyard & location:The vines are young, having only beenplanted in 2003. The soil is composed ofclay and limestone. There are plans todevelop the vineyard into the neighbouringvillage of Ordonnac, and by the end of 2016there should be six hectares in total, withthe goal being ten hectares by 2020.

Harvest, vinification & ageing:Traditional Bordeaux vinification, with theaim being to respect the fruit and let itexpress itself as naturally as possible.

Tasting:The 100% Merlot blend here makes for ajuicy wine with flavours of chocolate andcherry. The soft fruit means that the winetastes great at a young age.
