growth rate of 12.1 percent and Machinery and Transport Equipment recorded 10.8 percent . Food
reflected an average annual growth rate of 3.3 percent over the period (Table 1.6).
8 Because of the all inclusiveness of the category “commodities and transactions n.e.s”, the analysis focuses mainly ofhighlighting the contribution of the other categories.9 For 2001-2004, data represent twelve of thirteen Member States. For 2005 and 2006 data represents all Member States

bunker ‘C’ grade fuel oil, Trinidad and Tobago was the top intra-regional supplier accounting on
average for 91.2 percent over the period. For gas oils (other than diesel) Trinidad and Tobago
dominated accounting on average for 96.9 percent of CARICOM’s intra-regional imports.
Domestic Exports
In 2006, CARICOM’s top ten intra-regional domestic exports accounted for 70.2 percent of its total
intra-regional domestic exports. Over the period 2003-2006, these commodities on average represented
55.7 percent of CARICOM intra-regional domestic exports. Of the top ten intra-regional domestic
exports the first five commodities in 2006 were:

For CARICOM’s intra-regional domestic exports of motor spirit (gasoline), Jamaica was the top
destination accounting on average for 48.2 percent while for CARICOM’s intra-regional domestic
exports of kerosene type jet fuel, Barbados with an average percentage contribution of 53.8 percent
was the top of destination. Jamaica was the Region’s top destination for domestic exports of other fuel
oils n.e.s. accounting on average for 59.4 percent of this commodity over the period.
i In theory, the merchandise trade statistics produced by one country should be the mirror image of the statistics published by its trade partners. That is, exports of Country A to Country B should be the same as Country B imports from Country A.By extension this implies that theoretically CARICOM’s intra-regional imports should equal to its intra-regional exports. However practically this may not be possible for a number of reasons. These differences reflect both legitimate conceptualdifferences between import and export statistics as well as genuine errors or discrepancies in the data.
