Brief Overview of the SCC In 1991, the Alabama Legislature
enacted the Alabama State Employee Combined Charitable Campaign
(Act No. 91-561) providing Alabama state employees the opportunity
to contribute to a multitude of charities through the convenience
of payroll deduction. This single convenient channel allows state
employees to support their charity of choice while minimizing
workplace disruption and administrative cost to Alabama
taxpayers.
Slide 4
A Word about Payroll Deduction All state employees are eligible
Generally increase in contribution versus cash/check Allows
spreading the gift over the entire year a small monthly gift can
result in a large annual donation. Explain: Its a gift youll never
miss, that someone else will never forget.

engaging them this year! Recruit a committee representing all of
the divisions/sections within your organization Your CEOs
enthusiasm and support can be contagious Ask him/her to write a
personal letter of support to all employees
Slide 10

available just email SCC Staff Talk to last years coordinator(s)
What worked well? What didnt work well? Is there room for
improvement? Percent of participation Average gift
Slide 11
Step 4 Educate and Inspire Decide on solicitation style Group-
Bring your employees together to hear the SCC message and ask them
to fill out their pledge forms at the end of the presentation.
Efficient use of time, uniform message and less follow-up
Individual (or One-on-One) Soliciation Involves more employees but
personalizes the campaign Offers you a greater opportunity to
answer questions Both hold one meeting, series of group meetings,
and the one-on-one to follow-up with those who could not
attend
Slide 12
Step 5 Promote Your Campaign Use employee newsletters, e-mail
and other in-house communication tools Use SCC posters to build
awareness and keep everyone involved (and updated) during the
campaign Increase employee awareness by creating friendly
competitions between divisions/sections Use campaign speakers and
tours to show how SCC dollars are at work Schedule your campaign
and book speakers and/or tours early!
Slide 13
Step 6 Conduct the Campaign Set your campaign timeline Be the
first to make your gift It is easier to ask others to give when you
are giving too! Use personalized pledge forms if possible and make
sure everyone has an opportunity to give Have an internal kick-off
to get things started Engage local Campaign Managers for help in
outlying areas
Slide 14
Step 7 Report Results Report as soon as possible Weekly (or
bi-weekly) reports allow SCC to deposit personal checks in a timely
fashion Make sure all pledge forms are returned and accounted for

population Dont leave anyone out!!! Personalize cards if
possible
Slide 23
BE ENTHUSIASTIC: Your sincere, energetic approach is essential
to the campaigns success. Be mindful Explain that the agencies
participating in the campaign provide a variety of services
Slide 24
DONOR CHOICE: Emphasize donor choice. Ask each person to
consider contributing at a giving society level.
Slide 25
SAY THANKS: Make sure that you tell every contributor Thank
you. Coordinators should acknowledge key workers with letters or
notes of appreciation.
Slide 26
REMEMBER - GIVING IS A PERSONAL MATTER Gifts to the SCC are
voluntary. Whether a person gives to a SCC agency or not may depend
on factors other than the worthiness of the charities. Once your
prospect is informed about the SCC and understands how it will help
others, you have done almost everything you can to influence
his/her decision. Remind them they can give $1.00 per month through
payroll deduction a little each month that wont be missed will make
a difference in the lives of so many!

matching baby pictures of employees. Charge employees $2 per ballot

either version.
Slide 29
