Agility, AutomaLon and AI
Agility – “always on,” plaCorm-‐based, longitudinal
AutomaLon – integrated, real-‐Hme data collecHon
ResulLng in: – Faster analyHcs, forecasHng, predicHons – Yielding cost and Hme efficiencies – “Building a smarter planet”
…But this is not ArLficial Intelligence (AI) AI is machine simulaHon of human behavior

Were we ready for Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within? • Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within was released 15 years ago!
• First 100% CGI-‐based, photorealisHc “human” feature film
• Remains the most expensive video game-‐inspired film to date
• It took 200 coders over 4 years to render all 141,964 frames
• Aki Ross was to be the first photo-‐realisHc CGI-‐animated actress
• Film was praised for the realism of the CGI-‐animated characters
• Debuted to mixed criHcal recepHon, only grossed $85MM
• SHll one of the ten biggest box office bombs of all Hme

And are we ready for AI? So, why did Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within fail so miserably…and what can we learn from this?
Sony Pictures spent half a million dollars on research to find out why…and here is what we learned: • The movie “looked” amazing • It didn’t connect emoHonally with viewers • Actors looked, acted and sounded real, but sHll weren’t human • Actors felt too arHficial, even creepy, for the audience to care
The moral of this story is: • Just because technology CAN enable us to do something… • It doesn’t mean we should do it or that it’s even the right thing to do • And it’s sHll decades away from emulaHng or replacing us humans

AI’s Role In The EvoluLon of MR • ConHnue to use technology to create, collect and deliver informaHon and intelligence • But, don’t lose sight that it sHll takes human beings to understand human beings • There will always be a “human” arHsHc, emoHonal component to generaHng insights and knowledge from data that machines simply can’t emulate…
