Departmental Activities
Department of Civil Engineering
The Department of Civil Engineering, since its establishment in 1960 has been at the forefront
of teaching in the field of Civil Engineering. Currently, the Department admits 60 candidates for
the Under-Graduate programme. In its regular academic programme, the department offers
basic B-Tech course in Civil Engineering which includes Structural Engineering, Geotechnical
Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Water Resources Engineering, Environmental
Engineering and Engineering Geology. The course makes the students capable in identifying,
formulating and solving civil engineering problems that meets specified performance, cost,
time, safety and other quality needs and objectives with professional and ethical responsibility.
The laboratories are well equipped with the state of the art instruments. The projects offered
are in keeping with the needs of the industry and the recent advancement in the technical field.
The Department provides research and consultancy services to various public and private
sector organisations, and receives research and modernization grants from DST Bihar, MHRD,
and AICTE. The Civil Engineering department has recently been assigned projects of HUDCO in
which low cost housing in rural and urban areas are being constructed. One such low cost
housing building in the institute funded by HUDCO serves as an example to the public living in
rural and urban areas of Bhagalpur. The department also serves as a state technical agency to
the ministry of rural development, Government of India.
Workshops/ Events/ Seminars organized
a) A webinar on Good Practices and Quality assurance in civil engineering works was
organised by Ultratech Cement Pvt. Ltd. for the faculty and staff members on 29 July,
2019.
Department of Mechanical Engineering
Established in 1960, Bhagalpur College of Engineering is one of the oldest engineering colleges
in Bihar. The department offers courses to provide the students with sound knowledge in the
area of Mechanical Engineering for current need of modern industries. Mechanical Engineering
is one of the oldest departments in the college. Present intake of the department is 60 in the
undergraduate course. The department has well qualified and experienced faculty members,
well equipped laboratories, a centralized workshop and technical staff to guide students. Apart
from academic, industrial visits, software training, communication skill development classes
and industrial training are also arranged for the students. The department offers an excellent

teaching, learning environment to enrich students’ understanding about Mechanical
Engineering and techno economic development of the nation. Course curriculum has been
designed to prepare its graduates to become intellectual leaders in industry and academia.
Workshops/ Events/ Seminars organized
a) Training on ANSYS software was organised for the faculty members and students
during 11.02.20 – 15.02.20
Department of Electrical Engineering
The Electrical Engineering Department of BCE Bhagalpur was established in the year 1960. The
department offers one undergraduate program (B Tech in Electrical Engineering)
The department has highly dedicated and qualified faculty who impart individual attention to
the students, prompting them to rise above ordinary levels to face the competitive world. The
alumni are well placed in electrical core industries like SBPDCL, NBPDCL, BSNL, NTPC, IOCL,
BARC, ISRO, CIL, GAIL, ONGC, DVC as well as in various core industries. Our alumni are also
working as faculty in various government aided/self-financing engineering colleges. Also, a
fairly good number of our students had joined for post graduate programmes. Some of our
students are entrepreneurs too. The Electrical maintenance wing of the college is under the
Electrical department enabling the students to gain practical exposure from the department
itself. Also the various industrial visits, industry internships, attending industrial exhibitions
and talks by experts from the industry have helped the students to keep abreast with the latest
developments in the industry.
Apart from academics, the Department constantly strives to inculcate an awareness and
understanding of moral, ethical and professional obligations among the youngsters to mould
them as valuable engineers both for the industry as well as for the society. The department has
to its credit as Indian patent of an automatic electrical item developed by Dr.Patralekh, a
brilliant alumnus and HOD of electrical engineering.
Workshops/ Events/ Seminars organized
a) A workshop on Next Generation Power Converters was organized for faculty
members from 01.06.2019-05.06.2019.

Departmental Activities during Covid-19 Lockdown
The year 2020 has made everyone witness to an extraordinary situation rising out of a global
pandemic and subsequent lockdown. With this unprecedented lockdown everything has come
to an abrupt halt and the academic world is not an exception. Because of the forced closure of
educational institutions, the entire higher education system has been badly disturbed. In this
type of situation e-learning has emerged as the most effective option – both for the students/
teachers as well as the college/ university management. Faculty members at BCE, Bhagalpur
are grappling with new ways of managing this sudden transition to online education after the
physical classrooms do not remain a viable option anymore. Various platforms such as Zoom,
Google Meet, Google Classroom etc. are being explored for online teaching, webinars, training
and so on. Here is a quick glance at education and management at BCE during the lockdown
phase.

Induction Program
Bhagalpur College of Engineering (BCE), Bhagalpur had prepared itself to conduct a 3 week
long Induction Program as per the AICTE Model Curriculum. BCE is situated at the bank of
the holy river Ganga and gets flooded almost every year.. The admissions through Bihar
Combined Entrance Competitive Examination(BCECE) started in second week of August
and was supposed to end by 3rdweek of August. Also, a number of holidays were scheduled
in the month of October-November. Sighting all these conditions, the Induction Program
was initially scheduled to start from 26th August, 2019 and end on 14
th September 2019.
However, due to the delay in admission process, the dates were revised and it
started on 02nd September, 2019 and ended on 16
th September, 2019. It ran very smoothly
for the entire duration and students attended various sessions with zeal. The Induction
Program ran for 2 weeks but the faculty members put a great effort so that the new
students could get familiarized with the college environment and look forward to becoming
a part of the ecosystem.
The following contains the detail of events/activities conducted during the 2-week
duration (02nd September, 2019 to 16
th September, 2019).
A. Inaugural Day
The inauguration ceremony was conducted on 02ndSeptember, 2019 at the Seminar Hall,
AutoCAD Building. The chief guest Prof. Arvind Chaubey and the guest of honor Col. Satish
Kumar along with the Principal and other dignitaries inaugurated the Induction Program
by lighting the lamp. The Principal, Prof. Achintya welcomed the guests, dignitaries,
students and their parents.
Prof. Achintya introduced everyone with the glorious history of the college which has given
many professionals working at key positions in the service of the nation and the world.
Prof. Arvind Chaubey elaborated on the role of technology and research in making career
as well as progress of the nation. Col. Satish Kumar enlightened the students with the
