public works! This event was held at
Medinah Shriners Banquets.

ENERGY EFFICIENCY FUNDING
(February 5th)
The Fox Valley and Suburban Branches welcomed Greg Remington (Village
of Schaumburg), Jeffery Walters (Metropolitan Mayors Caucus), and Mike
Stanch (360 Energy Group) to discuss how municipalities can take advantage
of grant resources to fund energy efficient projects. This presentation included
a tour of the Village of Schaumburg Public Works Department.

2015 BRANCH PROGRAMS
DIVVY BIKES (February 26th)
Divvy is Chicago’s bike sharing system with 3,000 bikes and 300 stations across
the city. This organization provides the city with an alternate transportation option
that is environmentally friendly. Participants discussed the bike program and why
suburbs are considering Divvy for their community.
Elliot Greenberger, General Manager with Motivate, and Jill Velan, Parking and
Mobility Services Manager with the Village of Oak Park lead this discussion.

MARCH MADNESS SOCIAL (March 19th)
Participants joined the Suburban Branch in a post Chapter Awards celebration at
Dave and Busters.

ADA TRANSITION PLAN
(March 26th)
This presentation by Pamela Broviak, IDOT District I ADA Coordinator, featured an
introduction to the Title II ADA requirements and the US Access Board’s PROWAG
document, as well as a discussion on ADA Transition Plans.

YOUNG PROFESSIONALS – TOP GOLF (April 30th)
Suburban Branch joined the Chapter Young Professionals Committee in this networking event at Top Golf.

EXPO EXTRA (May 20th)
Suburban Branch hosted this after-EXPO event to promote networking.

KANE COUNTY COUGARS BASEBALL GAME SOCIAL (June 19th)
The Fox Valley and Suburban Branches hosted a family social event at the Kane County Cougars versus Peoria Chiefs game.
157 tickets were sold for this game.

BRANCH SCHOLARSHIP LUNCHEON
(June 25th) Members joined the Suburban Branch
at the beautiful Cantigny Park to celebrate our 2015 AWPA Suburban Branch Scholarship recipients.
Liz Jensen from Engineers Without Borders discussed her experiences abroad and opportunities to get involved. Ann Hejna from Operation Paperback also joined us to discuss her efforts to collect paperback books for soldiers overseas and military families.

ELMHURST QUARRY TOUR AND PICNIC (July 23rd)
Participants toured the Elmhurst Quarry Flood Control Facility, the largest
flood control facility in DuPage County. After the tour, the Suburban Branch
hosted a cookout.

ANTICIPATING HAZARDOUS WEATHER (August 27th)
Paul Sirvatka, a professor from the College of DuPage, spoke to the Suburban
Branch to discuss weather and how to anticipate it.

BRANCH SCHOLARSHIP GOLF OUTING & DINNER (August 21st)
Golfers joined the Suburban Branch at Chevy Chase Golf Course in Wheeling for the annual Branch Scholarship Golf Outing & Dinner. The purpose of this annual golf outing is to generate funding for the Branch Scholarship Program.
144 golfers participated in this event.
INSPECTOR AMERICA (September 15th)
Timothy Galarnyk, host of the History Channel Series “Inspector America,”
joined the Fox Valley, Lake, and Suburban Branches to discuss the state of
American infrastructure.
80 people attended this event.
BASIC SEVERE WEATHER SPOTTER TRAINING (September 25th)
The Suburban Branch and CSWEA offered the opportunity to participate in the
Basic Severe Weather Spotter Training course held at the College of DuPage.
Professor Paul Sirvatka presented this discussion.

2015 BRANCH PROGRAMS
PERVIOUS PAVEMENT ROADWAY CONSTRUCTION (October 8th) The Village of Westmont hosted a demonstration of 24-foot-wide pervious
concrete roadway construction on Cumnor Road between 59th Street and 61st Street. The purpose of this project was to replace the existing 16-foot-wide residential street with poor drainage. This projected created the first pervious concrete roadway in Illinois.
Representatives from R.W. Dunteman (Contractor), Ozinga (Supplier), Burns & McDonnell (Engineer) and the Village were available for questions.
Over 100 people attended this tour.
LOCAL COUNTY DOT UPDATE (October 20th) The Lake and Suburban Branches hosted this event with the major DOT County
agencies in the area (Cook, DuPage, Lake) to discuss their transportation programs for 2016 and other hot topics in the industry.
120 people attended this program.

SNOW & ICE LEADERSHIP SEMINAR (November 9th)
Public Works Superintendents/Managers/Directors, Snow Plow Operators,
Contractors, Property Managers, Facilities/Grounds Maintenance Staff, and others
responsible for Winter Maintenance were invited to attend this Snow & Ice Workshop.
160 participants at this event.

(November 16th)
Branch members and their
families were invited to join
the Suburban Branch in
volunteering at the Feed My
Starving Children facility.
