“He knows the way that I take.“
-Job 23:10 On October 31, 2014, an experimental space-craft broke apart during a test flight and crashed into the Mojave Desert. The copilot died while the pilot miraculously survived. Investigators soon determined what had happened, but not why. The title of a news-paper article about the crash began with the words “Questions remain.” Throughout life we may experience sorrows for which there are no adequate explanations. Some are catastrophic events with far-reaching effects while others are personal, private tragedies that alter our
individual lives and fam-ilies. We want to know why, but we seem to find more questions than answers. Yet even as we struggle with “Why?” God extends His unfailing love to us. When Job lost his children and his wealth in a single day (Job 1:13-19), he sank into an angry depression and resisted any attempted explanations by his friends. Yet he held out hope that someday there would be an answer from God. Even in the darkness Job could say, “[God] knows the way that I take; when he has test-ed me, I will come forth as gold” (23:10). Oswald Chambers said, “There will come one day a personal and
direct touch from God when every tear and perplexity, every oppres-sion and distress, every suffering and pain, and wrong and injustice will have a complete and ample and overwhelm-ing explanation.” Today, as we face life’s unanswered questions, we can find help and hope in God’s love and promis-es.” (Our Daily Bread) May God lead all of you and guide you and any oppressive or distressful time that you may go through in your life.
Blessings, Rev. April

Evil BrothersEvil BrothersEvil BrothersEvil Brothers
There were once two evil brothers. They were filthy rich and used their money to keep their wickedness out of the public eye. They went to church every Sunday and pretended to be perfect Christians. Their pastor was a doddery old fool who had no idea what they were really like. But one day the pastor died and a new one took over. This pastor was no fool. He saw through the brothers straight away. He was an eloquent, truthful and powerful speaker and, in a very short time, the congrega-tion doubled. Unfortunately, the church itself was in a bad way, and a fund-raising campaign was started to repair the roof. It had hardly begun when one of the brothers dropped down dead. The day before the funeral, the other brother dropped into the parson-age and handed the new pastor a check for the full amount needed to repair the church roof. ‘I’ve only one condition,’ he said. ‘At my brother’s funeral, you must tell everyone he was a saint.’ The pastor thought long and hard for several moments, took a deep breath and agreed. The following day, having banked and cashed the check, he stood up in front of a packed church and said, ‘This man was as evil as the devil himself. He cheated on his wife and abused his family. He drank like a fish, stole from the poor and never had a nice word to say about anyone. He was as foul and wicked a man as you could ever hope to meet. But, compared to his brother, he was a saint!’
end of such generosity. Your fit will be used to help low-income fami-lies in Crawford County to be able to meet their basic necessities. We pray God will continue to bless you as you have blessed others. Thank you to all the Chanute folks who showed up to help at Christmas distribution! I so appreciated your help; you helped make the day perfect! The support of Chanute 1st is instrumental in carrying out the mission of Wesley House.
Peace, Pastor Marcee

SOUL KEEPING: Caring For the Most
Important Part of You by John Ortberg The soul is NOT “a theological and abstract subject.” The soul is the coolest, eeriest, most mysterious, evocative, crucial, sacred, eternal, life-directing, fragile, indestructible, controversial, expensive dimension of your existence. Jesus said it’s worth more than the world. You’d be an idiot not to prize it above all else. Shouldn’t you get pretty clear on exactly what it is? Shouldn’t you know what it runs on? Wouldn’t it be worth knowing how to care for it? Two things are for sure. One is: you have a soul. The other is: if you don’t look after this one you won’t be issued a replacement.

We hope you will be a part of the ministry of the First United Methodist Church. If you would like to become a member, please give us: Name(s), address, phone number, e-mail address, anniver-saries, birthdays and if you are already a member of some other church or not.
