Following the major disaster that occurred at the Fukushima nuclear plant in Japan in March 2011, the resolve of the Japanese people was made evident as they worked tirelessly to resume a normal way of life. This obviously included aspects of their lei-sure and fun time – and Zamperla is proud to be part of these vital activities at various park venues. Following the success of a similar ride at the Universal Studios park in Resort World Sen-tosa, Singapore, Universal Studios Japan in Osaka has added a Zamperla Tea Cup ride for 2012 in a new themed area called Hello Kitty Fashion Avenue. Hello Kitty’s Cupcake Dream is a standard Tea Cup ride themed to the popular Hello Kitty brand with rider vehicles designed, as the name implies, as cup cakes and with light, bright colours.

Additionally, having confirmed that the new Legoland Japan park will be built in Nagoya for a proposed opening in 2015, Merlin Entertain-ments will again be including a Zamperla Magic Bikes ride at the new park, an attraction that has proved a big success at all the existing Legoland parks around the world, each of which has an ex-ample of this interactive ride. Our Artistic Dept. has, as usually, painstakingly and faithfully reproduced the design requested by the customer for this version of the Magic Bikes. Finally, Nagashima Spaland, one of the most important parks in Japan, has chosen three of Zamperla’s best sellers to refresh its family area. The newly acquired rides include a Rockin’ Tug, a Magic Bikes, incorporating a butterfly theme, and a 12-arm, 24-seat Kite Flyer.

News round-up

Following the installation of several Zamperla rides, includ-ing a MotoCoaster, Samba Tow-er and Jumping Star, among others, Jing Jiang in China has chosen another two Zamperla classic attractions to add more thrills to its line-up. A Windshear and a Power Surge are on the way to the park with opening scheduled for this summer.

It’s well-known that Zamperla is the specialist in designing themed rides and is highly experienced in adapting its rides to any brand - prime examples of such work can be seen in the UK at Pleasure Beach Blackpool’s Nickelodeon Land and Drayton Manor Theme Park’s Thomas Land.It was for this reason that Puteri Harbour in Malaysia chose us to manufacture several themed rides for its new FEC. Stay in touch to see photos of the Jumping Star, Mini Jet, Crazy Bus and Mini Ferris Wheel themed on characters from the popular Thomas and Friends brand and a Mini Tea Cup based on the world famous Hello Kitty brand.

Lotte World, the well-known South Korean park, has chosen two new Zamperla rides to help refresh various areas of the park - a Mega Disk’O and a Flying Ti-gers. The theme of the latter at-traction will be developed by our artistic department in collabora-tion with the Gary Goddard De-sign team.

Another great success story in Asia

Zamperla’s quality and reliability chosen again in North Korea.

Towards the end of 2009, the North Korean government con-tracted Zamperla to revitalise Morambong Park in the capital city of Pyongyang. The decision to work with Zamperla was made for a number of reasons, includ-ing our proven experience in run-ning complex projects, our ability to provide an all-inclusive service and our knowledge and exper-tise as demonstrated during the initial contacts they had with our company.Zamperla’s first project with the North Korean government in-volved six ‘mega’ attractions, in-cluding a Mega Disk’O, Volare, Gi-ant Discovery, Power Surge and Z-Force, which began providing excitement and thrills to the peo-ple of North Korea at the begin-ning of June 2010.Following the success of these first rides and their approval by the official committee involved, we were contacted once again in 2011 with a request to supply 13 new rides for the new Run-grado Park in Pyongyang. The ride package chosen by the cus-tomer included some of Zamper-la’s major and most ‘prestigious’ attractions, with classics such as

the Twister Coaster and Hawk as well some of our latest develop-ments such as the Air Race and a new prototype called the Twist and Bounce. (Watch out for more details on this great new addition to our product range in the next issue of Z News). All the photographs accompany-ing this article were taken during the installation period, but now the park is up and running, so very soon we will have pictures of the rides in operation. To see them follow us on our Facebook, Twitter and website pages.

Worldwide coaster ‘frenzy’ continues

The opening line of our June 2011 newsletter was ‘Coaster Crazy!

others.’ One year on, we can now inform readers of some of these other coaster ‘successes’.

Zamperla is delighted to have completed many roller coaster projects in the past year through-out the world, with installations spreading from North to South America and from Europe to Asia.In Bombay, India, the manage-ment of Walkwater was so im-pressed with the Mine Train we supplied to Ocean Park in Hong Kong that they asked our Roller Coaster Dept. to adapt a similar layout to the existing landscape in their own park. Our engineers worked hard to create the 700m layout, which included a couple of underground sections and also incorporated improved per-formance and stronger thrill sen-sations for riders. Additionally,

the ride has been updated to feature the very latest technical advances, which include switch-able magnetic brakes, a new lift motor and other key improve-ments. Continuing with news of custom designed coasters, Win-dow of the World in Changsha, China, has chosen a Gravity Moto Coaster with the same layout as the ride we installed at Chang-zhou Dinosaur Park, which is en-joying great success. This latest, 530m long coaster, will be built outdoors and will utilise the clas-sic Moto Coaster train. Having completed seven installations of the launch coaster and two of the gravity coaster, using the Moto Coaster train, it is clear that this

train is very popular with both oper-ators and their guests. The keys to the success of this type of train are the sensation of freedom it offers riders, the well thought out design and the option of adapting it to a custom theme, as Zamperla did for Dinosaur Park in China and Knott’s Berry Farm in the US. Indeed, we are also able to reveal that a con-tract for the third Gravity Moto Coaster has now been signed. This will be installed at Adventureland, an amusement centre in Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates. The ride’s 310m long track has been designed to fit into the existing building and to allow for the positioning of other rides between its curves, peaks and

drops. Our current list of coaster in-stallations also includes some stan-dard models, such as a Family Grav-ity Coaster for Fårup Sommerland in Denmark, a Speedy Coaster for Etnaland in Italy and a Junior Twist-er Coaster for GW do Brazil, while a custom Dragon Coaster will be installed at the Centro Commercial Puerto Venezia in Madrid, Spain. So, a year on from announcing a variety of coaster projects, we are pleased to be reporting on even more in-stallations, while with all the discus-sions Zamperla is currently involved in for other coasters, it looks likely that we’ll have lots more coaster news for you in another 12 months time!
