COMPANY INFO

The CBS Group BV, the holding Company for various CBS Companies, holds the exclusive rights to

a state of the art German Modular Construction Method:

The CBS System (Complete Building Solution)

The company is dedicated to building homes that encourage an atmosphere of quality of life

and value. Due to its high adaptability and compatibility, it can be used for a huge range of applica-

tions, varying from basic low cost housing units to high-tech luxury building projects. CBS houses

are individually planned but industrially produced.

CBS Holding International has adopted a corporate strategy dedicated to improving the perform-

ance of partners projects. We achieve this by building our core strengths of innovative technology,

design engineering and site management techniques, within an environment of quality

control and high safety standards to ensure full costumer satisfaction.

Research and Development

The CBS System is developed by a highly dedicated German engineer and inventor; Dipl.-Ing. Adolf Imhoff, our Chief

Technical Officer, who had with a live-long goal, to resolve the construction issues that he and other engineers encoun-

tered during building projects. Testing of the first element prototypes started in 1980 by the University of Karlsruhe in

Germany.

After 20 years of

research and de-

velopment, a sig-

nificant step was taken when a fully computerized

system was established.

Buildings can be constructed at prices which are

considerably less expensive in comparison with

conventional construction methods.

BENEFITS

Environmentally friendly

• Buildings made with the CBS building system are very energy efficient without any use for additional insulation aides which result in

lower energy costs and eliminates the need for conventional air conditioning

• Even though CBS walls have outstanding thermal values, they can be embedded with state of the art climate control technology

which uses the heat and transforms it to energy

• Due to a large contingent of air enclosed within, the CBS concrete does not absorb heat, making it a very effective insulating build-

ing material, especially useful in tropical and sub-tropical climates

• The industrial manufacturing method allows for optimal use of raw materials and eliminates construction- and packaging waste at the construction

sites

TECHNICAL INFORMATION

Concrete Mix

Foam Concrete is produced by uniform distribution of

air bubbles through out the mass of concrete.

CBS Concrete consists for around eighty per-

cent of enclosed air and the natural aggre-

gates of water, cement and silica sand.

The proportion of ingredients may be varied to adjust the physical properties of the resulting concrete.

It may be a product of

the region

TECHNICAL INFORMATION

Lightweight steel and concrete combination

The CBS System is an ultra-modern, innovative modular construction system based on a patented

combination of lightweight concrete in a special configured sheet steel structure. All building ele-

ments consist of a load bearing galvanized steel frame structure in specially shaped sections, en-

cased in the CBS factory, by aerated concrete. This supporting and strengthening concrete core

consists for around eighty percent of enclosed air and the natural aggregates of water, cement,

and

silica

sand.

The main carrying structure of the wall elements

consists of light steel sections. Distribution of the

weight is accomplished with vertical carrying

beams which are encased at the top and bottom

with the specially shaped steel profiles. The, cold-

formed, steel sections provide the structure with

the primary support function.

The lightweight concrete serves as stabilization of the steel sections and absorbs forces of pressure. It also fulfils all thermal-, sound- and fire

protection requirements.

TECHNICAL INFORMATION

Comparison of thermal conductivity of different types

of concrete with CBS lightweight concrete

Comparison of comprehensive strength of different types of

building materials with CBS lightweight concrete

How well a material transmits heat through itself is known as thermal

conductivity. The Lambda value (measured in watts per meter per de-

grees Kelvin, W/mK) compares the ability of materials to transmit heat.

The material with the lowest lambda value is the most efficient insulator.

TECHNICAL ADVANTAGES

Nanotechnology Surface Coating is another innovative method used by the CBS System:

A phosphate based coating system is used, which has been known for some time but could so far

only be applied when heated. CBS found a way which enables cold hardening of the phosphate

inks. The new molecular structures can be compared to chain armour, they are flexible, enable

occupants to breathe and provide excellent protection against external influences under different

climatic and geographic conditions.

Special features are:

• Thorough bonding with the surface area, good compatibility between its components (glass,

minerals, graphite, ceramics...)

• Flexible processing temperatures : between a minimum of 2°C and a maximum of 110°C

• Fast drying: 2 to 6 hours

• Heat and UV resistant

• Also applicable to wood and metals

Advantages of the patented CBS building material compared to conventional concrete are:

• The compressive strength is 5% higher than conventional concrete

• The tensile strength values are higher by a factor of 2

• The thermal conductivity is lower by almost a factor of 2

• The consolidation (full load) of the completed buildings is achieved after 24 hours

• The shrinkage and the resulting cracks which occur in conventional concrete are avoided by using the CBS Concrete

Tested and certified by German Universities since 1986:

MANUFACTURING PROCESS

More than 70% of all of the necessary work which needs to be done to the

building, can take place at the CBS factory. Although the concrete building

elements are uniformly manufactured, the CBS System allows individual

architectural freedom, making it easy to manufacture buildings according

to local designs. With the programmed Control Systems which operate the

CBS Factory production lines, up to 1,100 m² wall-, ceiling-, and roof com-

ponents; during two shifts, can be produced daily.

The CBS Factory comprises of five Production Sections:

1. Steel frame production

2. wall / floor element frame production

3. Roofing-frame production

4. Concrete-expanding production

5. Light concrete production

Assembly lines

In the CBS Factory semi-automatic assembly lines are used

to produce the building elements: The welded steel frames

are placed, side-by-side, in molds on the semi automatic

assembly line. When they reach the batching unit, the

molds are casted with light-concrete. All necessary open-

ings; doors, windows and electricity outlets, are excluded

by blocking them out. All required work on the surface area

of the outer wall elements also takes place In the factory,

without any atmospheric influence.

TRANSPORT / CONSTRUCTION

The decisive cost factor for transportation of building materials is usually their weight, the

maximum dimensions are rarely a determining factor during loading. The low density

(from 4kN/m3) of CBS Building elements determines that more elements can be delivered

per transport than would be possible with conventional building materials.

Connecting the Building Elements

During construction, the pre-cast structural building com-

ponents are joined together to form the module. In order

to construct a strong solid structure, the formation of

strong connection points is essential. Therefore, the

component parts are methodically assembled by using a

system of slot and key connections .

Independent of weather conditions and location

The lightweight concrete wall elements permit con-

struction on remote site loca-

tions, with a minimal, or even

without, use of hoisting

cranes. Due to individual con-

struction techniques, the

building process can continue

during various weather con-

ditions.

ZERO-ENERGY BUILDING

Buildings developed with the CBS System can incorporate renewable energy sources. The CBS System has devel-

oped several energy systems that work solely by input of solar energy. By using the CBS System, Zero Energy build-

ing units can be constructed that autonomously produce both energy and water:

Solar Air Conditioning

Incorporated in

the walls of

CBS buildings a

system of hard

plastic pipes,

filled with

liquid, can be used to provide the building with heating and cooling. The system is driven by an integrated pump.

The system is easy to use and is regulated through a thermostat. With the thermostat the residents can set the

preferred temperatures inside the building.

Water Production Unit

The absorber is cooler than the outside temperature, therefore the humidity condenses on

the natural stone absorber. The condensed water runs from a drip cup to a holding tank.

For example; for a structure situated in Dubai or Abu Dhabi, on the coast up to 7000 liters

per year per sqm are feasible, compared to the desert region, where less than 500 liters a

year per per sqm are possible. Overall, a yearly regional average of 4,745 liters (13 liter a

day) per square meter can be taken as a realistic basis for computation.

Countries with a fresh water shortage are usually situated in a climate with a yearly aver-

age temperature of more than 23° Celsius and a relative high humidity. These are optimal

conditions to extract water from the air. After filtering it, the distilled water can be used as

water for domestic use or can be enriched with mineral nutrients to obtain drinking water.
