Transcript of Yr8 A3 Response guidance and instructions
An example of a year 8 'Response' for this assignment.
For this assignment you will create a paining in response to the work of chosen artist that you have been using in class. You painting should be done using A3 (size) paper and water colour paints. Follow the task instructions below carefully and use the media players and icon links for more help.
Task 1: Using your artists work
1. Using your chosen artist (A2:Artists), identify and select 4 different works of art
that your artist made. Make a note of these artworks and if possible print out
pictures for your sketchbook.
2. In your sketchbook divide a full page into FOUR equal sections (click on the
image icon at the top of this task for an example). Number each section and add
the name/ title of each artwork you have chosen.
3. In each section copy your chosen works of art using pencil and coloured pencils
for colour. Try to copy your images as accurately as possible. In doing this you
are familiarising yourself with your chosen artists work.
Now go to the next page....
Task 2: Full page initial work
1. Using the next FULL page in your sketchbook begin work on your RESPONSE to
your chosen artist by selecting ONE of (Task 1) your artists work. Draw your
selected artwork out lightly in pencil.
2. Modify (change) parts of your chosen work by stretching, adding and removing
different elements of the work. You may want to change the background, or
re-arrange features within the work to create a new piece of artwork in response
to your chosen image.
3. When you are happy with your drawing and feel that you have made enough
changes so that the work is now an original response it is time to add colour.
Begin with the BACKGROUND first and work towards the foreground.
4. Consider changing and/ or adjusting the colours to suit your new response. You
may want to divide your work into two, three or four parts and experiment with
alternative colour schemes.
5. Use a variety of levels (tones) in your work to create interesting effects and to
give your work a sense of depth.
Now go to the next page....
Task 3: Main Painting
1. For this task you will need to work on A3 (size) paper. Using your previous (Task
2) initial work, begin by sketching out your work, filing the work area of the
paper.
2. If needed you can still modify your work further, but ideally your work should
reflect what you did in your sketchbook.
3. When you are happy with your sketch, use a sharp pencil and more pressure to
add a stronger cleaner line. Remove all old sketchy lines when your new stronger
line is in place.
4. To add colour on your work you should use water colour paints. Begin by
painting your background first and work towards the foreground.
5. Use a variety of tone to add effects and depth to your painting and you should
mix your own colours where needed.
6. Bring out features and line within your work by using a fine (thin) brush and
dark colour.
Now go to the next page....
Submitting your sample work:
• When all of the above tasks are completed, you then need to submit a sample of
your main work for marking.
• To do this you will need to take a digital photograph of your main painting (task
3). If you need to borrow a camera from school, this can be arranged. Please ask.
• After you have taken a photo of your work transfer it your PC and check that it
can be viewed correctly (in- focus and the correct way up).
• Go to the SUBMIT WORK button at the bottom left corner of the assignment
page and click it. When the next window appears click on the BOTTOM (2nd)
BROWSE button, and then locate your work from your PC.
• Click on the OPEN button to select your work, then click on the OK button to
confirm your actions.
• After a short moment you will return to the assignment page and a blue
message will be displayed at the top of the page if you are successful.
