T he North Irvine Bravehearts boys under-10 plus soccer team earned two wins in one day, defeating Yorba Linda, 9-0, and Tustin, 7-2, last Saturday. Timothy Jou had five goals on the day to lead the way. Matthew Jou and Oscar Nomura each scored three goals, Chris Hume scored two and Zach Bokota and Ogi Cosic scored one. The Bravehearts IRVINE STORM FINISHES AS RUNNER-UP The Irvine Storm a boys seventh grade NJB All-Net team ex- tended its playoff run by finishing as runner-up in the Super Sectionals last weekend. The team also qualified for the NJB National Tournament. The Storm finished with a record of 4-1, winning pool games over Laguna Hills, Fountain Valley and South Coast. It defeated the Yorba Linda Pumas in overtime, 48-43, in overtime in the semi- finals. point lead at halftime before falling, 47- 42, to Newport Mesa. Murphy was the tournament MVP for the Storm. IRVINE EATERS DEFEAT BRUINS The Irvine Eaters sixth grade Irvine Youth Basketball League boys team went into its game with the Bruins shorthanded, but still came out on top. The Eaters, who were the Western Division champions, defeated the East- ern Division champion Bruins, 57-42. All six Eater players contributed. Andres Martinez led the team with 14 points, 19 rebounds and five assists. William Kim finished with 12 points, six rebounds and two assists. Andrew Campbell added 10 points, four re- bounds and two assists. Michael Armand finished with eight points, eight rebounds and two assists and Neema Sadeghi had 10 points, one rebound and one assist. Michael Masangkay rounded out the team’s effort with three points, five re- bounds and one assist. The Eaters had to play without Meh- rab Asgarynejad, who earned the league’s sportsmanship award. IRVINE STING TAKES SECOND The Irvine Sting girls sixth grade All-Net basketball team finished as the runner- up at the Southern California Super Sectional Tournament. The team lost in the final to the Cerri- tos Magix, 36-29. The Sting qualified for the tourna- ment by finishing in first place in the All-Net winter league with a record of 12-2. The Sting offense was directed by Tiffaney Pi and Becky Shane. Post players Jillian Cizynski and Courtney Whyte contributed rebound- ing and scoring. Wings included Spencer Bennett, Do- minique Ambat, Megan Bartyczak, Cali Fuller and Miquela Kallenberger. LONGHORNS OVERTAKE BULLDOGS The Irvine Little League Major Division Longhorns defeated the Bulldogs, 6-5, last week. The Longhorns were led by pitcher Brian Neal’s six strikeouts and clutch hitting from Zak Baayoun and Dakota Potter. Collin Harms closed down the Bull- dogs with five strikeouts in the final two innings. The Longhorns rallied in the final in- ning with Kenan Hedstrom stealing home for the game-winning run.
