State of the GeoWeb
Google and others have all talked about how well the geoweb is doing. Lets look at some history.

The idea of ‘mashing up’ data from so many sources via dynamic data, and integrating it with mobile devices was still nascent.

And now these ideas are quite well understood and employed for a variety of businesses and applications. Pulling together the GeoWeb is an accepted practice that is still moving along very quickly.

And we’re even using some very new ways to share cartographic data. Build your maps in Maker and then pull into Mapnik, QGIS, or other tools for additional modification and rendering.

Working within the GeoWeb
Because we’ve been aligned with the GeoWeb, it’s been very easy to use other services and for partners to build with GeoCommons.
![Page 19: Your Own Private GeoWeb](https://reader034.fdocuments.us/reader034/viewer/2022051400/54bbfc2a4a7959fa6a8b4586/html5/thumbnails/19.jpg)
Aaron showed of the very good, and open, Flickr shapefile export. We’ve been using them to do analysis of user-specified areas against economic data.
![Page 20: Your Own Private GeoWeb](https://reader034.fdocuments.us/reader034/viewer/2022051400/54bbfc2a4a7959fa6a8b4586/html5/thumbnails/20.jpg)
Media has been using GeoCommons to share FOIA’d data and build visualizations for their readers to understand complex relationships between their government and community.

We’ve also been tracking and analyzing emerging news stories through our News dashboard.
![Page 22: Your Own Private GeoWeb](https://reader034.fdocuments.us/reader034/viewer/2022051400/54bbfc2a4a7959fa6a8b4586/html5/thumbnails/22.jpg)
Your Own GeoWeb
This is all great - but many users have concerns about putting their data into the “Web”, or can’t access high-speed internet due to security, infrastructure, or other reasons.
![Page 23: Your Own Private GeoWeb](https://reader034.fdocuments.us/reader034/viewer/2022051400/54bbfc2a4a7959fa6a8b4586/html5/thumbnails/23.jpg)
So we’re announcing GeoIQ - it’s like GeoCommons private for your business or organization. It’s the technology and data of the GeoWeb, operating within your own infrastructure.
![Page 24: Your Own Private GeoWeb](https://reader034.fdocuments.us/reader034/viewer/2022051400/54bbfc2a4a7959fa6a8b4586/html5/thumbnails/24.jpg)
GeoIQ Appliance
We’ve actually been supporting GeoIQ as an appliance for government and enterprise. Customers can install the GeoIQ server into their existing network infrastructure, authentication mechanisms, and workflow to enable their employees to access powerful visualization and analysis.
![Page 25: Your Own Private GeoWeb](https://reader034.fdocuments.us/reader034/viewer/2022051400/54bbfc2a4a7959fa6a8b4586/html5/thumbnails/25.jpg)

A very compelling example of this that I can share with you is the “Beer for Data” program. There is a tiki bar in Jalalabad, Afghanistan where UN workers, NGO’s, contractors, and citizens can safely come and provide anonymous data. A GeoIQ server is now available for anyone to upload, share, and visualize data. Because the appliance can run entirely ‘offline’, it works extremely well in the disconnected environment while still providing for a local area, web based tool.
![Page 26: Your Own Private GeoWeb](https://reader034.fdocuments.us/reader034/viewer/2022051400/54bbfc2a4a7959fa6a8b4586/html5/thumbnails/26.jpg)

Installing GIS Servers not fun
However, not everyone can or wants to deal with additional infrastructure or servers. And installing alternative software is often difficult on support to build and maintain.
![Page 27: Your Own Private GeoWeb](https://reader034.fdocuments.us/reader034/viewer/2022051400/54bbfc2a4a7959fa6a8b4586/html5/thumbnails/27.jpg)
So we’re now announcing GeoIQ Small Business - for companies with small and medium teams that want to leverage the powerful GeoIQ platform but without the overhead of servers and network administration.
![Page 28: Your Own Private GeoWeb](https://reader034.fdocuments.us/reader034/viewer/2022051400/54bbfc2a4a7959fa6a8b4586/html5/thumbnails/28.jpg)

Community as a Service
And because it’s still part of the GeoWeb and using open interchange mechanisms, you can still pull in the huge amount of publicly available data to compare against your private company information.
![Page 31: Your Own Private GeoWeb](https://reader034.fdocuments.us/reader034/viewer/2022051400/54bbfc2a4a7959fa6a8b4586/html5/thumbnails/31.jpg)

Enterprise and Small Business Use Case
To illustrate how you could use a private GeoWeb, lets consider a use case where a business is evaluating current market health and considering where to expand in order to compensate for the downturned economy.
