Patriotic Parade Goes Virtual

Over the past two months, the Summerlin Council has monitored and responded to the quickly evolving nature of COVID-19 and our com-munity—in particular, its impact on our Summerlin park system. Making Our Way Forward Together

A sincere thank you to all Summerlin residents for your

patience and cooperation as we con-tinue to fi nd new ways to safely get through each day in our community. Th e unique nature of this virus has shown all of us the positive impact we can have as caring individuals working together to minimize unnecessary ex-posures. With everyone’s focused eff -orts we are not only helping to protect ourselves and our loved ones, but also respecting those among us that are the most vulnerable health-wise. As we have been for the past several weeks and will continue to do so in the coming days, weeks and months, our Summerlin Council staff

will be “adapting” to each new wave of sanctions and best practices for health and safety conditions, while maintaining our parks and open spaces, and eventually re-opening and operating our community centers, playgrounds and other recreational amenities. Please note that status updates for Summerlin Council am-enities and operations can be found on Summerlink.com.

quickly proven to be an invaluable resource to all of our Summerlin community and our community parks and recreation team. Our thanks for their dedication and commitment. I should also note that your Sum-merlin Council Board of Directors and each of your master association Boards have continued to meet telephonically as necessary during these past few months to accomplish their community work. Further, development of pro-posed 2021 community operating budgets has begun and Boards will be evaluating their respective numbers over the next few months. As we go forward together please know that we want things to get back to normal as quickly as all of you do, but we will be taking each step forward with caution, for the sake of any and all individuals involved or impacted by each step. Th anks and stay safe and healthy.

COMMUNITY CONNECTION

Swimming Pool and Water Safety

This isn’t how we envisioned ending the school year on Scholar Lane, but we are so proud

of how every member of The Meadows School community came together to support one another and our school.

Have a wonderful summer and we look forward to being together again in the fall!

And a special congratulations to the class of 2020! You are resilient, accomplished, and destined for great things.

Thank you, parents, students, faculty, and staff!

Comprehensive college preparatory education for preschool through grade 12 in Las Vegas

themeadowsschool.org

Th e temperature is rising and many of us will begin looking for fun ways to keep cool! Here in the Las Vegas Valley, our residents have numerous options when it comes to cooling off in water related activities. Whether it’s in your own backyard or at a local community pool, perhaps a nearby water park, or maybe bodies of water such as Lake Las Vegas or Lake Mead, or those looking to get out of town and hit the beaches of Arizona or California, our choices are seemingly endless. While water activities can be an amazingly fun time for hours on end, we have to respect the water and realize they can pose dangers with tragic consequences. LVMPD urges our community to “Police their Pools” by practicing the“A, B, C and D’s of Pool Safety”A. Adult Supervision - Always designate an adult that can swim to actively supervise children around water, even if the children are active swimmers. It is important to make sure adults know who is in the pool at all times. B. Barriers (for your pool) - Consider having a perimeter fence around the pool, with a self-closing and self latching gate. If you have a stand-alone spa, make sure

the spa cover is equipped with straps to lock down the cover and prevent your children from accidentally fall- ing in. It’s also a good idea to have alarms on doors that provide access to the pool area/backyard. C. Classes (swim lessons, CPR) - Ensure your family members know how to swim by taking swim classes. Classes can be for any age range, from young toddlers to adults. Also, make sure that you and your family understand and know how to use CPR. Th is class just might be the tool to help save someone’s life. D. Devices (pool fl oating devices, life jackets, and rescue tools) - Know the location of life safety devices in case of an emergency. If your children need fl oating devices to help them swim, make sure they are proper for their age and size. We at Summerlin Area Command want all our residents to enjoy a safe and healthy summer. Excellence starts with you!

WATER CONNECTIONSummerlin Sothern Nevada Water Authority

Summer Landscape Watering Restrictions Through August With the change of seasons upon us, Southern Nevada residents and businesses are reminded that the com-munity’s summer watering restrictions are in eff ect now through August 31. Th e seasonal restrictions prohibit landscape irrigation between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday (Sunday watering is prohibited year-round), when water can be lost to intense heat and high winds; to avoid water loss, the SNWA recommends you water your landscape in the early morning hours before sunrise to reduce evaporation. While landscape irrigation is permitted six days a week, SNWA Conservation Manager Doug Bennett said watering landscapes fewer days per week may in fact promote healthy plants, trees and shrubs. “Over-watering plants can do more harm than good,” Bennett said. “Drought-tolerant plants only need thorough

watering once or twice per week and true desert plants may go weeks between waterings, even in summer heat.” Exceptions to the mandatory season restrictions include hand-watering using a hose with a positive shut-off nozzle, supervised sprinkler system testing, and watering new or reseeded landscapes for up to 30 days. In addition, allowing water to spray or fl ow off your prop-erty is considered water waste and may result in a water-waste fee. Th e seasonal restrictions apply to both turf and drip irrigation. For more information about how oft en and how long to water, and for other important landscape watering tips, visit snwa.com.
