Access off Interstate 15 inNevada; U.S. Highways 93 and 95 in Nevada andArizona. Lake Mead N ational Recreation Area islocated about 30 mil es south of Las Vegas via U.S.Highway 93. The lake and surrounding area boastsfive developed beaches and marinas with campgrounds and other services, including OvertonBeach, Echo Bay, Callville Bay, Las Vegas Bay, TempleBar a nd Boulder Beach . Boating of al l kind s andpersonal wa ter craft use are popular within L akeMead NRA. Waterskiing is a favorite activity on the

broad expanses of open water, along with kayakingand canoeing. The Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Areais located 20 miles west of Las Vegas. With in the bo undaries of the 197,000-acre area is a 13-mile scenic drive, ma ny miles of hiking tr ails, picnic a reas and a v isitors cent er with an exhi bitroom and bookstore.

Red Rock's most significant geological feature is theKeystone Thrust Fault. About 65 million years a go,two of the Earth's crustal plates collided with suchforce that pa rt of on plate of grey lime stone wasthrust up and over the younger red sandstone. Thefault ext ends from the Cottonwood Fault north tothe vicinity of La Madre M ountain. The 13-miles cenic drive is a one - w ay road that also allows bicycle traffic. Sightseeing and hiking tr ails can beaccessed from the parking areas on t he side of theroad. The scenic drive is open daily from 7 a.m. to 8p.m. The entry fee is $5 per carload, and you can alsopurchase a $20 p ass that will last you 12 months .Entrance is free for those who walk or ride the ir bicy clesthrough the gate. Golden Age, Gol den Access andGolden Eagle Pass es are all valid at Red Rock .Bicycles are permitted only on designated roads andtrails.
