Windows 10 Creators Update Coming

April 11.

The last major “features update” was Windows version 1607

“The Anniversary Update”, which was released in August 2016.

The Creators Update coming soon – on April 11, 2017. Not eve-

ryone will get the Creators version on April 11, 2017 - but that’s

the day it will start rolling out.

The Creators Update (no apostrophe, grammar fans) will bring

several new features and quite a few small changes to Windows

10. And some of them I think you’ll probably like. There are too

many changes to list here, so here are a few I thought you’d like

to know about.

Unified Updates. Because Windows is a now a service, every

time Windows has an update you’ll need only to download the

files necessary to update your version/build of Windows 10. In

the past it has always meant downloading the entire up-

date. According to Microsoft, the downloads will average 35%

smaller than before Unified Updates. This should save you time

— and if you’re being charged for bandwidth, it should save you

money.

Start Menu Changes. Minor changes are good things, and Win-

dows 10 Creators Update keeps the now-familiar Windows 10

Start Menu look, with just a few nice changes. If you’re a fan of

tiles, you be able to create tiles of folders. You will also be able

to hide Windows apps on the start menu. Small changes are

good… you won’t have to learn a whole new start menu again.

Windows Defender Gets Upgraded. Windows Defender has

been replaced with Windows Defender Security Centre. In the

new Windows Defender Security Centre you’ll be able to run

system health reports, block suspicious apps, perform scans of

your computer, check your computer’s health and more. Also in

the Windows Defender Security Centre you’ll also find a new

feature called “Fresh Start”…

There are many other changes, too. If you want to learn more

about Windows 10 Creators Update, https://www.microsoft.com/

en-us/windows/upcoming-features.

Remember, Windows 10 Creators Update starts rolling out on

April 11, but it may take a month or more before you see get the

update.

Exploring Edge Part 3 Let’s look more at Edge. When you first open a tab in Edge, you’ll probably ask yourself, “Where the heck

is the address bar?” Until you choose a homepage, you’ll open your tabs on the default start page which

shows top sites and features news and weather. To get to a site you need to start typing in the search

box. You can type whatever you’re searching for or just the address.

To choose a new homepage, you’ll need to click the menu button. That’s the little icon of three dots to the far right of the page.

Click the icon and you’ll get a drop-down menu that gives you a lot of choices. You can open a new win-dow or choose to use open a New InPrivate Window to give you extra-secure browsing that doesn’t allow cookies. It may be difficult to use some sites in a private Window. Use Zoom to make the page larger or to zoom out. Zooming out is especially helpful if the whole web page doesn’t seem to fit on your monitor.

Cast Media to Device lets you broadcast your Edge content on compatible devices like an Xbox One. Find on page lets you search for particular words on a webpage. Pin page to Start puts a shortcut to a page on your Start page.

must go to John Craft for presenting his

Learn Basic Computer Skills Course

It covered the following subjects:

How to operate a computer, how to surf the internet, how to use Word,

Excel and PowerPoint, how to send and receive emails, how to use Skype, how to transfer your

photos from a camera to your computer

The Course was well attended and ran weekly during February and March from 1.00PM to 3.00PM

on Tuesdays and Wednesdays

At the normal cost of $3.00 per Lesson, our members will have got good value for money.

Of the members who attended the course and to who I have spoken to, the course was excellent

and a lot of knowledge was gained.
