Although it may not feel like it, summer is fast approaching, which means the start of our summer programs for our middle and high schoolers! Summer is the time when many experience a greater conversion toward Jesus, including myself. I remember going on a mission trip when I was sophomore in high school just because I wanted to get away from my family for a week, and during that week,

my life changed. I experienced Jesus in a new way through our service, joyful friendships and espe-cially the sacraments. This weekend is the kick-off our annual youth fundraiser, Youth 365. Youth 365 is a fundraiser to help replenish our scholarship fund so that financial concerns are not the reason that any of our students cannot attend one of our programing. This summer, our youth will be attending various events including, Extreme Faith Camp, a Mission Trip to Chicago and Totus Tuus evening programming. Extreme Faith camp is a weeklong camp for middle school students led by high school students in McGregor, MN. EFC includes all the fun summer camp activities, such as rock climbing, swimming, and boating, but also includes daily mass, confession, small groups, and a powerful time of Eucharistic Adoration where many students have their conversation. EFC will take place June 20-26 for high school students and June 22-26 for middle school students. High School students have a special opportunity to travel to Chicago to serve with Mission of Our Lady of the Angles in Humboldt Park, Chicago, IL. They are a religious organization that serve inner city Chicago, especially the youth through their Bible Camps. Participants of the trip will be assisting with the Bible Camp as well as other projects around the convent. Our Chicago Mission Trip will take place July 19-24 Totus Tuus is another way our students can get involved right here at St. John’s! Totus Tuus will be similar to our youth group during the year, but for a full week, and ran by our Totus Tuus missionar-ies. It will take place June 14-18 in the evenings. You are able to register for any of these programs online, at our website stjohnnb.org. The opportunity to donate to Youth 365 will be in the plaza for the next couple weekends. Please invest in our youth by filling out one of the envelopes. Better yet, grab some friends and complete one of the higher dollar amount envelopes. Thank you!

Men’s Fellowship - Thursday Morning, March 12 from 6:30-8:00am in St. Joseph Hall Lord, Have Mercy Presentation by Dr. Scott Hahn. Jesus told his first clergy, “If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained.” In Lord, Have Mercy, Scott Hahn explores the sacrament of reconciliation and shows why it is the key to growth in the spiritual life. Drawing on the history of ancient Israel, the Gospels, the writings of the early Church, and the lives of the saints, Hahn reveals the living, scriptural heart of the Church's teachings on penance, forgiveness, and reconciliation. It is a story that begins with the sin of Adam and Eve, continues in the biographies of Moses, King David, and the Apostle Peter, and reverberates in the lives of believers today. Come for the donuts, stay for the truth!! Questions, call Dave @ 612-616-4013

Lenten Regulations on Abstinence Abstinence – Catholics 14 years of age and older must abstain from eating meat on Ash Wednesday, Good Friday and all the Fridays of Lent.

Meet Claudia Claudia Moreira Ciesynski is the mother of Josh, who was fea-tured last weekend. She is origi-nally from Brazil and born in Rio de Janiero - the city with the Christ statute on top of the mountain. Her husband Jeff grew up in Northeast Minneap-

olis and they were parishioners at All Saints parish for many years. After they moved to Fridley and All Saints became a parish with the Latin Mass, they searched for another church. In 2018, the family decided to attend and register as parishioners at St. John’s. They love the community and feel very welcomed here. They enjoy the many activities and events that the parish provides, with opportunities to learn, volunteer and meet other members. It has taken Claudia 3 years of bible study fellowship, to grow stronger in her faith and her desire to know and understand the core of the Catholic faith. RCIA was her next step. Claudia desires to be closer to God and re-ceive the Holy Spirit. She, like Josh, can’t wait for the indelible mark of the sacrament on her soul. She is committed to finishing her initiation sacraments with Confirmation.

Effective Communication Strategies An education program by the Alzheimer's Association

Communication is more than just talking and listening - it’s also about sending and receiving messages through attitude, tone of voice, facial expressions and body lan-guage. As people with Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias progress in their journey and ability to use words is lost, families need new ways to connect. Join us to explore how communication takes place when someone has Alzheimer’s , learn to decode the verbal and behavioral messages delivered by someone with dementia, and identify strategies to help you connect and communicate at each stage of the disease. If you are interested in attending, please RSVP to Mary Hartz, parish nurse, by calling 651-633-8333 ext. 1229 by March 26th.

The Families Moving Forward Core team is looking for a new food coordinator. If you have any interest in learning more please contact Rita Arndorfer at [email protected] or 651-633-8333 Ext. 1220. Thank you!
