Experiencing China Programme

•The Experiencing China Programme is a curriculum-based excursion programme for secondary students from Year 7 – Year 12. It provides students opportunities to explore the geography, history, customs and cultures of different areas of China.

•YCIS Beijing works hand-in-hand with Dragon Show and Wild China to arrange trips in which students can be educated outside of the classroom.

The Purpose of Experiencing China Trips

• Enables students to gain first hand experience of China and expands upon their classroom learning

• Allows students enjoy and experience Chinese culture

• Develops and practices students’ skills in leadership and teamwork

• Provides students with community service opportunities

Components for Trips

• Links to the school curriculum

• Character education and community service opportunities

• Chinese culture and history studies

• Hands on activities and experience

Staffing, Itinerary & Curriculum links

• All staff are usually involved in an Experiencing China trip. Teachers based on gender balance and experience

• Each trip will include a group leader

• Teachers will be required to refine the itinerary, and prepare learner focused activities prior to an Experiencing China trip.

Preparation & Planning1. Promote to students• Teachers address the purpose of the trips to the students• Discuss the highlights of the trip• Prepare parents’ letters/forms• Provide information sheets for parents

2. Teachers meet regularly• Discuss and finalize the curriculum-linked activities and evening activities• Health and Safety Issues - food allergies, incident reporting line, accommodation,

room check, bus rules, etc.• Community Service - activities and donations• Group Arrangement

3. Students’ Meeting• To go through the student behaviour policy and reinforce safety issues• To remind students about the expected, weather, dress code, departure time, packing

list, etc.

Cooperation from Company

Our partner companies Dragon Show and Wild China will assist through the following ways:•Suggesting and arranging the itinerary•Working with the school and the teachers•Providing meals and accommodation•Arranging transportation•Staffing company trip leaders & local tour guides

Our partner companies trip leader will:•Start working with the school 4 weeks before the trip •Attend teachers’ meetings, introduce itinerary, collect teachers’ comments and make necessary changes•Learn about the student groups and arrange train allocation and hotel rooms •Learn all individual student allergies, food restrictions, etc.

Year 8 – Wuzhen, Hangzhou & Suzhou

Year 9 - Huangshan

Year 10 - Xi’an

Year 11 – Inner Mongolia

Year 12 - Yangshuo

Post Trip Evaluation

After each Experiencing China Trip, students and staff will:

•Present take outs from the trip during morning assembly

•Post Evaluation: - Review trip health and safety, itinerary, transport, accommodation, food and organisation- Discuss value of tasks, activities and student outcomes in meeting the learning objectives.

•Reflect and submit a summary report

•Make recommendations for future trips
