Dear diary,I am about to join collegeand for that I have beenroaming around the city filling up forms, makinginquiries and shopping. Somany mysteries abound in Delhi that I am stillexploring these and gettingamazed every day.
Last week, a friend tookme to Paharganj. I wasamazed by the exhuberant market. From colourfulclothes and junk jewelleryto restaurants serving foodfrom across the world, thismarket had it all. And thebest part of this visit wasthe accent in which the
shopkeepers talked — as ifthey had spent their entirelives in a foreign land. Eventhe number of foreignerswas more than Indians inthis market. I had neverexperienced any thing ofthis sort. Coming out ofschool is so much fun that Iam still reeling under it.

Dear diary,It was a usual afternoon, when a child, clearlydeprived of food, clothes, love, care… but with a sur-prise glow in his eyesapproached my group offriends. We thought he mustbe a beggar and would askfor alms in the name of god
with some expected lines. But we were taken abackwhen he requested us tobuy his ‘paintings’. Heexplained to us the contentof each of his work and evenshowed us his name paintedbehind them.
Completely taken abackby his story and so notbelieving it, we asked him to write down his nameonce again. And he did, indicating clearly how keenhe was to read, write anddraw; to observe and to feel;to create. His paintings, surely didn’t lie!
For a moment I could feel the loud silence of hispain, of his sorrows, of hisresponsibilities, of hishunger... He wanted to dosomething, but couldn’t.Was the school so far? So out of the reach of thischild who clearly wants to learn?
Who is to be blamed? The government? The society? His parents?Or he himself? Sorry, but the finger points to YOU and ME!

Delhi University has tobe the most happen-ing place in the city
this time round. With theadmission season justround the corner, this iswhere you get to spot latest fashion trends. Forthose not sure about whatworks well at the DelhiUniversity, here’s the HTCity guide to DU dressing.
■ The fact that you arekicked about throwingaway your school canvasshoes, does not mean thatyou go over the top andmake your way to collegein those strappy stilettoes.Delhi University swears byfloaters and colourful flip-flops for comfort and style, that can be combined withethnic as well as modernwear. Khan Market,Janpath have shops thatstock all kinds of trendyflip-flops. For floaters, youcan check out popularsports brands.
■Satin and blingy salwar
suits are more for weddingfestivities and not theDelhi University. Cottonkurtas with patialas, jeansor even churidars are whatone must wear if you reallywant to go the traditionalway. Fab India, CottonWorld, People Tree, Khadiare some of the places tobuy these kurtas from.
■ Big is the word whilechoosing a bag for college.Big jholas, trendy tote bagsare perfect for college. Itshould be big enough tocarry all your stuff frombooks to makeup. PS: Yourcool knapsacks that youused in school can also beused at times. Avoid carrying small bags thatcan only carry your makeup and no books. Janpathflea market is the jholaMecca of Delhi University.
■ Sport silver and junk jewellery. It’s time to saygoodbye to little gold hoopsthat could be worn toschool. In fact, avoid wear-ing gold jewellery whengoing to college. It workswell for style and also safety.
Blame it all on Delhi’s sporting spirit. Some play love gameswhile others play cricket amidst the ruins. Spotted in Hauz KhasVillage. Only in Delhi!
