“Reel In” Sport Fishing in Manuel Antonio is the first in the area to declare that it is totally Gay Friendly.

Some people still have the false notion that sport fishing is an activity, exclusively for “manly” men. We all know this is a bunch of ‘hooey’. “Reel In” strongly believes that sport fishing is for Everyone. Men, women and children all enjoy the thrill of reeling in a really big fish.

Of course, sport fishing involves an element of luck. That’s why they call it “fishing” not “catching”. But if old Neptune is generous, you will be rewarded with a bountiful catch, which you can take home, along with a tall tale or two. In any case, you will have a wonderful, relaxing day, with family or friends on the open sea.

“Reel In” has 2 fantastic Luxury Yachts in service, both departing from Marina Pez Vela in Quepos. “Reel In I” is a 36 foot Bertram, and “Reel In II” is a 42 foot Hatteras. Both boats have full accommodations, including enclosed air conditioned cabins, with electricity, clean refreshing showers and beds to rest on and, of course, a full galley, where the crew prepares delicious food.

Tuna, Red Snapper, Dorado (mahi mahi), Rooster Fish, Sailfish, Swordfish and Marlin are all bountiful in these waters. The crew will happily fillet your catch, of the best eating fish. There is nothing quite like delicious fish, fresh out of the water, especially when you have the satisfaction of knowing that it’s your catch!

Tours are available for ½ day, or full day and both in-shore and off-shore. They can be booked privately and also shared. The off-shore tours are a bit more expensive and the fishing is a little less predictable. The fish which are targeted are not only larger but also more elusive. Due to conservation restrictions, many of the off-shore catches are for sport only and, depending on the species, must be returned to the sea

after being caught. In-shore tours stay closer to the coastline and offer the best chance of bringing home a delicious catch. The fish targeted are smaller but more abundant. Some, such as the Rooster Fish, put up a terrific, unforgettable battle.

Full day tours include transportation to and from your hotel, breakfast and lunch, snacks, beer and soft drinks, and of course all fishing gear is provided.

Half day tours include transportation, snacks, beer and soft drinks, along with all required gear.

In addition to fishing, swimming opportunities are also a possibility. Your Reel In crew will always be nearby to assist you, in any way they can.

For those who bring home a catch, a tasty feast surely awaits you. If you wish, Restaurant Mar Luna or Raphael’s Terraza, both in Manuel Antonio and Z Gastro Bar in Quepos will gladly prepare your catch for you. Simply contact these preferred restaurants to make arrangements. They will marinade and cook your fish to perfection. Contact information may be found in the “Playita” Info bulletin directory, on page 14, and the locations are shown on the map, on the center page of the publication.

Costa Rica requires that each fisherman have a valid fishing license, which may be purchased at the Reel In office, prior to departing for your adventure.

The license fee is $15 and is good for 1 week.

¡A Grito Pelado!

In Manuel Antonio every day is an adventure. There are many fantastic tours to choose from. Take a different tour each day, or fill

your day with a choice of 2 tours. Here are some recommendations from the experts. Gaytours offers a schedule of tours for the LGBT community; check it out on page 16. All tours included transportation to and from your hotel.

Between December 1st and April 30th, (High Season) the tours tend to be more in the afternoons and are more exclusively LGBT. From May 1st till November 30th, (Green Season) the tours tend to be in the mornings, with mixed crowds, but always with the most gay friendly tour operators and crew.

• Damas Island Mangrove Tour. You will be transported from you hotel to a typical costarican home where you will board a boat or a Kayak (your choice) and float between the Pacific Ocean and Paquita River estuary, among the mangroves, along Damas Island. This location has 4 different classes of mangrove trees, abundant wild life and is one of the most important parts of the biodiversity. Times for Damas Island tours will vary with the times of high tide.

• Hiking in Manuel Antonio Park. On this 2 ½ hour walk, your guide will point out animals such as monkeys, sloths, birds, bats, lizards, frogs, snakes, and insect life. Using a high powered telescope, you will be able to see things that the casual visitor often misses. You will also learn about the unique habitat, vegetation, and animal behavior in one of Costa Rica’s most treasured national resources.

• Sunset Sails Tour. This is a wonderful boat trip along the scenic coast, beautiful beaches and islands of Manuel Antonio National Park. We will then anchor at a protected cove were we can go

swimming and snorkeling, eat a delicious meal, and admire some of the most spectacular sunsets on the Pacific coast. Drinks and food are included, along with the sounds of our favorite music.

• Canopy Tour. The tour begins with a given safety instructions and you suit up. To start everyone gets in a truck and go up a mountain to the first of the zip lines. The tour includes: 9 lines and 17 platforms, 1 rappel lines and a 2 suspension bridges. For an addition $44 a Super “Mono” rail, where you can fly like Superman on Central America’s longest line.

• Horseback Riding Tour. To start you will receive riding instructions and safety tips, and will be paired up with a beautiful and strong horse. The you will head out to explore the rain forest. Your ride will take you through the mountains, all the way to the mountain top. At the end of the trail you will find a wonderful waterfall, where you will be able to rest for about 30 minutes. You can lounge on the grass or take a swim. At the end you will be served a delicious lunch made with local ingredients.

• White Water Rafting. Upon arriving at the departure point, you will receive a safety talk before getting into the river. The tour is approximately 2 ½ hours in the raft where you will tame the rapids, taking occasional pit stops to rest and admire some of the region’s beautiful flora and fauna. Your drive back to base camp will be much shorter, where you can change your clothes and savor a delicious homemade meal.
