children experience in relation to such things as school size, the

number of teachers and the range of new subjects, the move

from primary to secondary school also involves a transition

between two radically different cultures of schooling.”

Daily Structure

• 8.50am (warning bell at 8.45am) to 2.55pm

• 4 lessons per day; 2 breaks (Tues – Fri)

• Monday: Period 1 to 3; Period 4 = AMAYDA

• Begin with 10 minute Care Class – Check and Connect

• Each lesson is 70 minutes in length

• Number of lessons per week depends on subject

• Each student studies:

-English, Mathematics, Science, Humanities, Arts Elective, Technology Elective, Physical Education, LIFT

• LIFT (Lifting Individuals, Flourishing Together) lessons:- Social-Emotional Learning- Pastoral Care, Wellbeing and Personal Development

- Literacy and Numeracy Response to Intervention

• Assembly – Rotational: Whole School, House, Year Level

• Adhere to iPad charter, signed during enrolment interviews

• The use of the iPad will allow us to strategically provide students with opportunities

to develop their skills as 21st Century Learners

• Part of our school’s pedagogical framework:

– integrate new knowledge,

– set learning goals and give feedback,

– allow students to collaborate,

– and encourage them to think critically and engage in learning through a real

world context.

• Integrated use of apps such as classroom, showbie, mathspace and see-saw.

At SPSHS, our wish is that every student develops to their full potential. Therefore every

child will be given the opportunity to participate in and lead a vast array of extra curricular

activities offered before school, at lunch times and after school that will support, challenge

and enhance each child’s schooling experience.

WHAT TO BRING: Wide brimmed hat, morning tea and lunch (or money/EFTPOS card to purchase at the canteen), drink/water bottle, pen, notebook. No devices required

What can I expect?

- A custom-built experience that will push you out of your comfort zone.

- Without giving away to much information be prepared to get dirty, to go fast, to fly through the tree tops and to build strong relationships with your new school peers and teachers.
