These are topics that are based on things that we find in our gardens and allotments etc. Take some time to go into your garden, driveway, yard or look at nature in a local park. 2. If you need any support with the work that we have set then please email either Mrs Bailey or myself on [email protected]. We will also upload images and videos to support you in understanding; these will be posted to the Class Story area of Class Dojo. You will also find this information on our school website where you will then be able to download it if you wish, alongside a list of useful links. Remember: Don’t dip until you cross the finish line. Remember that you can still access Times Tables Rockstar. Arrange with a friend to meet (online!!!!) and challenge each other on TTRS. Improve your score and let us know who you have done on Class Dojo. It’s all about improving you speed. Remember to continue to read Charlotte’s Web as you will be given some tasks to complete at a later point. https://cleveracademy.vn/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/Charlotte_s_Web_.pdf Whole School Weekly Challenge Can you write down or talk about 10 things that you have got better at since being in this class? Day 2 English You need to start writing up your paragraphs one at a time. The features will be the same for each paragraph, but the content will be different. I have written a model to support you in this task. You may wish to use a computer to complete this task which is fine.

London 2012: One warm summer days, 6th July 2005, London received the incredible news that it had won the bid to host the 2012 Olympic Games. Everybody who was involved in the bid breathed a sigh of relief and began to celebrate wildly. However, although there was a great celebration, they knew that the road ahead would be busy and full of potential pit-falls. The country was behind them and began the journey to host arguably the biggest sporting event in the world. In addition to this, the UK had just failed to gain the World Cup and needed a victory.

Day 2 Geography

Using the map below, I would like you to locate the cities that have held Summer Olympics over the last 100 years. Find out a fact about each of the cities and record on the next page: Paris, Los Angeles, London, Rio de Janerio, Tokyo, Mexico City, Moscow, Barcelona, Athens, Sydney, Atlanta, Munich, Rome, Helsinki, Beijing, Seoul

Day 3 Maths We have a couple of tough challenges today. The first involves a little bit of angle work and multiplication. The second a bit of multiplication, division, workings out etc. Have a go and use support if you need to. Remember that soon these will be the challenges that you will do in class!! (Don’t panic if you can’t do them all, have a go!) An Olympic Badminton Racket has approximately 25 strings in total. When these strings intersect (cross each other) they form squares. This means that there is approximately 250 squares on the racket. Take what you know about right angles to figure out how many right angles there are on an entire badminton racket. (Hint a right angle=90 degrees) Extension: If you added the amount of degrees for each of the right angles, what would the answer be?

This is not as difficult as it seems. Remember that I said that in the Summer Term you would need to start to use lots of different maths skills and methods just to get one answer. Do this question bit by bit. On average, every swim stroke Michael Phelps takes moves him 2 metres down the pool. (That means he could swim 10 metres in 5 strokes) Michael competed in 8 separate events during the 2008 Olympics in Beijing: 400 metre individual medley 4x100 metre freestyle relay (he will have swum only 100m in this race) 200 metre freestyle 200 metre butterfly 4x200 metre freestyle relay 200 metre individual medley 100 metre butterfly 4x100 metre medley relay (he will have swum only 100m in this race) In total, how many metres did Michael swim for his gold medals? (this will only involve you working out each race, so you will have an answer for each event) Extension: How many strokes will he have used for ALL of his gold medals? (this means how many did he do in all of the races)

Day 3 English

Continue over today and tomorrow to complete your leaflet. Remember that it needs to be formal and so not include personification and other narrative features. Today, I would like you to add a quote in from a famous athlete. Remember to include quotation marks and relate to who is saying it.

Cathy Freeman: One inspirational athlete who has represented Australia is Cathy Freeman. She specialised in the 400m sprint; her personal best time of 48.63 seconds makes her the eighth fastest woman at that distance. From an early age, he has always enjoyed running and will often praise her support team, ‘I'm so lucky. I have such a great support system. All I have to do is run.’

Day 3 Music In 2012, London held the Olympics. There is always an opening and closing ceremony that features bands and music related to that country. This is usually a mix of modern and traditional music. The artists who performed at the concert were: Edward Elgar, The Who, Duran Duran, Stereophonics, Paulo Nutini, Paul McCartney, Arctic Monkeys and Dizzee Rascal. If you were creating a musical line up for the next Olympics, who would you include and why? Remember that this must showcase the best music the UK has to offer as the whole world will be watching!! Create a poster below to advertise and list the acts that you would choose.

Day 4 Maths Olympic Medals: Use the information below to complete the activities related to London 2012 medals table.

Task 1: Orange task: Draw a graph to show the information from the medals table. Your graph may be for Gold medals or for total medals. Green and Blue task: Draw a bar graph that shows two sets of data- the amount of gold medals won by each country and the total number of medals won by each country. For this you will need to put the bars for each country next to each other (so the data for the USA is side by side, then the data for China is side by side etc) Task 2: Were Australia more successful that South Korea? Explain. Task 3: Write a series of questions that people can answer related to this data: E.G. How many more bronze medals did Russia score than the USA?

Day 4 Spanish I have listed the venues for the 1992 Summer Olympics held in Barcelona. Using the vocabulary below, I would like you to practice asking where the venues are. Donde esta el… Where is the… Estadi Olímpic Lluís Palau Blaugrana Piscina Municipal de Montjuïc Tennis de la Vall d'Hebron Sarrià Stadium Piscines Bernat Picornell Extension: Task1: Using Google Earth, have a look at where these venues are. Think about the area around them, the location in relation to the city centre, the port etc. Task 2: If you have been to Barcelona, have you visited any of the venues? Where did you go and what did you see? Task 3: Using Google Earth, look at where these venues are situated in Barcelona and plot on the map. This WILL be a challenge.

Day 5 Maths

This problem will require you completing some subtractions, so use the methods that we have studied in class. You will need to research the results for these events from London 2012 and Rio 2016. This will then allow you to compare. However, the problem starts with you having to look at the data and then predicting the outcomes. Once you have calculated the differences, were your predictions correct? Remember to show your workings
