Alternatively, search for: The national academy/Early Years/Literacy/The Emperor’s New Clothes

which will take you to the sequence of lessons.

Phonics

Please note that we have included Phonics videos for each day from the Government’s Letters and

Sounds website. These teacher-led videos are 15-20 minutes long with activities for the children to do. If

you only want to do the video each day, that is fine. If you would like to do some extra practice, you can

do the spelling words and the dictated sentence for each session too.

Session One Start by logging onto Active Learn Primary https://www.activelearnprimary.co.uk/login?c=0 (If you haven’t yet visited this site, you can see details of how to log in above under Reading) and complete the Bug Club Phonics game that you have been allocated by your teacher.

Acorns words for the whole week are below. You should be able to read and spell them by the end of the week. Write them on some post it notes or squares of paper. You can practise turning them over and reading them out loud. Practice spelling 3 of them every day in your very best handwriting.

Extra Practice:

Science: Materials In this lesson we will be looking at another property of materials - absorbency. We will begin by watching the following video from the Oak National Academy: Which materials are absorbent? https://classroom.thenational.academy/lessons/which-materials-are-absorbent-6tk3er?activity=video&step=1 You may wish to join in with the practical element of this lesson. If so, you will need the following items: A cloth or sponge, a plastic bag or a plastic cup, foil, cardboard or paper and cotton wool or tissue. You will also need a jug of water. A sheet to record your results is included in this pack, or you can draw your own if you prefer. Alternatively you can just watch the experiment on the video. This video overlaps a little with the activity from a couple of weeks ago to find waterproof materials to fix Aunt Stella’s umbrella. This will be a good opportunity to consolidate the learning from that week.

Geography:

This week we are going to be looking at the different human and physical features of London, the capital city of England. Take a look at the PowerPoint Let’s Explore London! which is uploaded to the home learning website as a separate file. Then, cut out some of the London photos at the end of these pages. Stick them your exercise book and see if you can label the different human and physical features that you can see. Remember to leave plenty of room around each picture so that you can label neatly and clearly (with a ruler please) like this:

The website Phonics Play www.phonicsplay.co.uk is once again free for you to use all resources.

Next week’s Geography – we will be making models of a London landmark! You might want to start

thinking about what landmark you want to make and collecting the recycled materials that you will need for your model!

PSHCE (Personal, Social, Health and Citizenship Education) For this week’s PSHCE, we want you to get moving and enjoy yourself! Have a game of the Fitness Snakes and Ladders (see page at end of this document). Have fun!

P.E You might wish to continue completing the 60 second physical activity challenges created by the Youth Sport Trust, started last week. They are designed to be done at home and suggest easy-to-source alternatives to PE equipment, such as a washing basket and balled-up socks, instead of a hoop and beanbags! There are 25 different challenges – have a go at any you haven’t completed yet! https://www.youthsporttrust.org/60-second-physical-activity-challenges
