Good News!

• Mini-Dance Marathon Saturday, January 30! Best wishes to Mrs. Globokar and the Student Senate as they conduct Xavier’s third annual Mini-Dance Marathon on Saturday to raise funds for Tanager Place.

•• The District Large Group Speech Contest was held on Saturday, January 23rd at Iowa City High. Xavier had 11 groups earn a Division I Rating and qualify for State which will be held on February 6th at Linn-Mar. Listed are the groups that received a Division I Rating: One Act Play “Juvie,” Musical Theatre: “Avenue Q,” Musical Theatre “The Wedding Singer,” Musical Theatre “Next to Normal,” Readers Theatre: “15 Reasons not to be in a Play,” Choral Reading: “The Octogenarian,” Two Improv Groups: Ensemble Acting: “In the Mind of the Beholder,” Ensemble Acting: “Over the River,” and TV News.Congratulations to Mr. Davidson and all members of the Speech Company on on representing Xavier so well at Districts!

• The MVC Swim Meet was held last Saturday. Michael Lyon placed 6th in the 100 Free and 6th in the 400 Free Relay. John Richardson placed 6th in the 100 Backstroke. Michael Lyon was also named MVC All-Academic. The boys swam against Hempstead on Tuesday. Michael won the 50 Free and the 200 & 400 Free Relays.

• The Bowling teams compete in an MVC match today against Dubuque Wahlert @ May City Lanes. Match time is 3:45 p.m. Good luck to Coach Camacho and all members of the Bowling teams!

• The Girls & Boys Basketball teams play Linn-Mar tonight. The Girls play @ Linn-Mar and the Boys play @ Xavier. The sophomore games begin at 6:00 followed by the varsity games at 7:30 p.m.

• The Wrestling team competed in an MVC double dual on Thursday against City High & Hempstead. Braxton Chicchelly, Jon Slater & Josh McDonald all won both of their matches. The MVC Wrestling Tournament will be held on Saturday @ Dubuque Senior. Matches begin at 10:00 a.m. Good luck to Coach Kadlec and the team!

• Charlie Bales will sign a “National Letter of Intent” to play DivisioDivision I Soccer at Western Illinois University. He will sign his letter on Wednesday, February 3rd in the Guidance Classroom at 3:00 p.m. All students, friends, faculty & staff are invited to attend.

• Joey Gase has signed with SS Green Light Racing for a multiseries developmental car racing program in 2010. This is a wonderful opportunity for Joey. Xavier High School is proud that he was one of the few racers selected nationwide! • Jon Keller has been selected the MVC Boys Basketball “Athlete of the Week” for January 18th-23rd. Congratulations Jon!
