Foundation Stage Headlines

• 66% of Southwark school children achieved a Good Level of Development (GLD). An improvement of 6 percentage points from the previous year (60% in 2013)

• The LA’s performance continued to be higher than the national (60%), London (62%) and statistical neighbour averages (63%)

• We were ranked joint 16th (no change from last year) and also remained positioned in the top quartile for this measure


Phonics Year 1• Southwark continued to make good improvement. There

was a 5 percentage points increase from 72% in 2013 to 77% in 2014

• For the second consecutive year, Southwark’s result was better than the national average (74% in 2014)

• Southwark was ranked joint 30th – an improvement of 2 places We remain positioned in the top quartile


KS1 Headlines• Southwark made improvements of between 1 to 2

percentage points, in all KS1 subjects and compared to the previous year’s results

• Southwark continues to outperform the national average for all 2 levels progress measures - nationally the expected progress made in reading; writing and maths was 91%; 93% and 90% respectively.

• Compared against London averages, Southwark’s results were in line with those for 2 levels progress in reading. However we were 1 percentage point below the London averages for writing and maths
