Why? Because it takes 5 seconds to drop a gift in a bag and another 3 seconds to write the recipient’s name on a tag. When you have cousins and grand- parents and friends and brothers to give gifts to at Christmas, there is no time for fancy gift wrap. But when you have easy and cute tricks to fall back on, wrapping gifts is easy and fun. Here’s a photo tutorial for a classic wrap: The Whole dang package. Wadded up. WiTh a boW. Fill with paper shreds, place the gift on top, and add curled rib- bon to the handle. l If you’re wrapping clothing or anoth- er item that lends itself well to this method, roll it up into a tube and put wrapping paper around it. Tie the ends off so it looks like a piece of candy and add curled ribbon. l Before wrapping time, stock up on white take-out boxes and cardboard clothing boxes. They can be found locally at providers like URM in Lewiston, department stores or online. There’s no need to add wrapping paper, just ribbon. l Use brown kraft paper, white butcher paper or newsprint end-roll paper instead of fancy (and expen- sive) wrapping paper. Yarn or ribbon pairs nicely. You can also have your kids color the paper so it’s custom art. That’s two gifts in one, right? l If you want to forego ribbon entirely, make paper flowers out of cardstock (you can find hundreds of tutorials on YouTube or Pinterest) and glue them to the top. If the gift is for a little girl or a woman, use a headband in place of ribbon. For a little boy or a man, try a bow tie. Washi tape is a really great ribbon alternative and looks best on butcher paper or kraft paper. l Wrap with designer paper. Spoonflower.com allows you to upload your own design or use another artist’s and have it made into gift wrap. l Wrap with fabric. Place your gift in the center of a square of fabric, at an angle. Take two opposite corners and tie together in the center of the gift. If you don’t have at least 6 inches of fabric left over, it’s not big enough. Tie the remaining corners in a knot on top of the first. Tie each knot one more time and adjust and fluff the fabric “ears” left over. 1 2 3 4 5 Charlotte Prasil, 5 of Clarkston, is the perfect Christmas package. Her gift, not so much.
