    $aceration of the s4in surrounding a (ound ay occur if a dressing (ith a lo( a"sorptive

    capacity is used on a heavily e-uding (ound f the dressing is highly a"sorptive then orefre;uent dressing changes ay "e needed, in addition to investigation and anageent of the

    cause of the e-udate .such as infection/

    The ion exchange properties of some alginates mae them useful haemostatic agents, and as

    such the! are particularl! useful for postoperati"e wound pacing-nappropriate use of dressings ma! lead to unwanted effects
