Opening Hymn #683 Lord of All Hopefulness COURTNEY

Call to Confession The Rev. Lottie MacAulay Friedman

Prayer of Confession (silent confession followed by unison prayer) Mighty God, we try to put our trust in you, but sometimes it’s easier to trust in the things of this world. We repent of our misplaced faith in power, politicians, and nationalism. Loving God, we try to love all your children, but sometimes it’s easier to focus on division. We repent of the ways we fail to see the image of God in our neighbors. Merciful God, wash us clean and make us new so we can be free to trust more deeply and love more fully. Amen.

Assurance of Pardon

Gloria Patri Glory Be to the Father GLORIA PATRI

Glory be to the Father and to the Son; and to the Holy Ghost. As it was in the beginning, it is now,

and ever shall be, world without end. Amen, amen.

Proclaiming the Word of God

Scripture Matthew 6:6-15

“But whenever you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you. When you are praying, do not heap up empty phrases as the Gentiles do; for they think that they will be heard because of their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.

Pray then in this way: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And do not bring us to the time of trial, but rescue us from the evil one.

For if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you; but if you do not forgive others, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.”

Sermon Sermon on the Mount: Pray This Way The Rev. Erik P. Khoobyarian
