WelcomeWe are very glad to have you worshiping our gracious God with us today.

Flowers The sanctuary flowers are given today to the glory of God.

To Our Guests,We especially welcome you today! More information about our church is available on our website at firstpresaugusta.org.

Spiritual CareIf you would like to speak to someone about what it means to know Jesus Christ or you have any spiritual need or question, please use one of the prayer cards in the pew rack to contact one of our pastors. Our church elders are also available to speak with you. An elder will be standing next to the pastor following the service.

Children’s Check-inWe are committed to the highest level of protection possible for the children placed in our care on Sundays and at all church events. For this reason, we require parents of newborns through fifth grade children to check in their children before they go to the nursery, Sunday School, Catechism, Children’s Church or any other children’s activity. Several kiosks are available in the Welcome Center. The process is quick and easy, and volunteers are available if you need assistance checking in.

Children’s WorshipWe offer a specially designed program for children in pre-k through fourth grade during the morning services. A leader will escort children from the sanctuary to their classrooms during the hymn of preparation. Parents are welcome to accompany them to observe where to pick them up after the service. Parents of children in pre-k through second grade are asked to pick up their children following Sunday School or the 11 a.m. worship service.

Nursery Nurseries are provided for infants and toddlers during the worship services and Sunday School. We also provide a Mother/Infant Room located beside Nursery 1 which is equipped with live video feed of the worship services. Ushers are available to direct you.

Additional Seating Additional seating for morning and evening worship services is available each week in St. Andrew’s Hall.

As stewards of God’s resources, we try not to print an excess of bulletins. We invite you to bring this bulletin with you when you return for the evening service.

†The Call to Worship ............................................................ Hebrews 12:22-24, 28-29You have come to Mount Zion, to the heavenly Jerusalem, the city of the living God.

We have come to thousands upon thousands of angels in joyful assembly, to the church of the firstborn, whose names are written in heaven.

You have come to God, the judge of all men, to the spirits of righteous men made perfect, to Jesus the mediator of a new covenant.

Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe, for our God is a consuming fire.

The Lord be with you.And with your spirit.Let us worship God!

Rise up, O men of God! Have done with lesser things. Give heart and mind and soul and Strength to serve the King of kings.

Rise up, O men of God! His kingdom tarries long. Bring in the day of brotherhood And end the night of wrong.

Rise up, O men of God! The church for you doth wait, Her strength unequal to her task; Rise up, and make her great!

Lift high the cross of Christ! Tread where his feet have trod. As brothers of the Son of Man, Rise up, O men of God!

†The Invocation (Please lift hands)

†The Response—Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing.............................Nettleton

Q. 21 What is true faith?

A. True faith is a sure knowledge whereby I accept as true all that God has revealed to us in his Word. At the same time it is a firm confidence that not only to others, but also to me, God has granted forgiveness of sins, everlasting righteousness, and salvation, out of mere grace, only for the sake of Christ’s merits. This faith the Holy Spirit works in my heart by the gospel.

†The Confession of Faith .....................................................The Heidelberg Catechism

(Sung by all)Come, thou Fount of every blessing,Tune my heart to sing thy grace;Streams of mercy, never ceasing,Call for songs of loudest praise.Teach me some melodious sonnet,Sung by flaming tongues above.Praise the mount, I’m fixed upon it,Mount of thy redeeming love.

O to grace how great a debtorDaily I’m constrained to be!Let thy goodness, like a fetter,Bind my wandering heart to thee.Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it,Prone to leave the God I love; Here’s my heart, O take and seal it,Seal it for thy courts above.

The Response

The grass withers and the flowers fall,But the Word of our God stands forever.

†The Pastoral Prayer and The Lord’s PrayerOur Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen.

The Assurance of Pardoning Grace ..................................................Ezekiel 36:24-28For I will take you out of the nations; I will gather you from all the countries and bring you back into your own land. I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean; I will cleanse you from all your impurities and from all your idols. I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. And I will put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws. Then you will live in the land I gave your ancestors; you will be my people, and I will be your God.

The Corporate Confession of Sin

Gracious Heavenly Father, we are sinners in your sight; you have judged us so and if we deny it, we make you a liar. Yet in Christ you are reconciled to your rebellious servants. Shamefully, we have experienced your amazing grace towards us, but have not loved you with our whole heart, nor our neighbors as ourselves. We confess that we often honor your Son with our lips when our hearts are far from you. Forgive us for our hypocrisy and formality in religion. Forgive our neglect of your Word, your direction, your priorities and your day. Forgive us for tolerating sin in the knowledge that grace abounds. The worship that you do not despise comes from a broken spirit and contrite heart before you. Therefore, we plead for you to create in us clean hearts and put new and right spirits within us, that we may bring glory to your name. Through Christ we pray, Amen.

The Offertory—We’ve a Story to Tell to the Nations .......................H. Ernest Nichol

Words and Music: H. Ernest Nichol | Arr. Dick Anthony | ©1964 Singspirations, Inc.

We’ve a story to tell the nations, that shall turn their hearts to the right,A story of truth and mercy, a story of peace and light, A story of peace and light. For the darkness shall turn to dawning, and the dawning to noonday bright, And Christ’s great kingdom shall come to earth, the kingdom of love and light. We’ve a message to give to the nations, that the Lord who reighneth aboveHath sent us his son to save us and show us that God is love, And show us that God is love. We’ve a Savior to show to the nations, who the path of sorrow has trod,That all of the world’s great peoples might come to the truth of God, might come to the truth of God.

Evening Prayers

Offertory—Simple Gifts .................................................................. Bracket and Wolf

St. 1,2 : Joseph Brackett, Jr. 1853 | St. 3, 4: Ann M. Wolf, 2012

’Tis the gift to be simple,’Tis the gift to be free,’Tis the gift to come down where we ought to be;And when we find ourselves in the face of Christ,We will be in the valley of love and delight.

When true simplicity is gained,To bow and to bend we will not be ashamed; To turn, turn will be our delight,Till by turning, turning,We come to Christ.

By his gift we are humble,By his gift we can see,By his gift we reach for where we ought to be;And only by God’s grace we will reach the goal,To be one in the Lord with our whole heart and soul.

When understanding is gained,We will learn to forgive,By his love we’ll be changed; We’ll grow as he leads us from the old to the new,Till we shine his light walking in his truth.

The Lord’s Supper

The Prayer of Great Thanksgiving

Lord we adore thy boundless grace,The heights and depths unknown;Of pardon life and joy and peace,In thy beloved Son.

Come all ye pining hungry poor, the Savior’s bounty taste;Behold a never-failing store for ev’ry willing guest.

O wondrous gifts of love divine,Dear Source of ev’ry good;Jesus in thee what glories shine,How rich thy flowing blood.

Here shall your num’rous wants receive,A free a full supply; He has unmeasured bliss to give,And joys that never die.

(Sung by all)Rock of Ages, cleft for me, let me hide myself in thee; Let the water and the blood, from thy riven side which flowed, Be of sin the double cure, cleanse me from its guilt and pow’r.

Not the labors of my hands can fulfill thy law’s demands; Could my zeal no respite know? Could my tears forever flow? All for sin could not atone; thou must save, and thou alone.

Nothing in my hands I bring, simply to thy cross I cling; Naked come to thee for dress; helpless, look to thee for grace; Foul I to the Fountain fly; wash me, Savior or I die.
