Healthy People Know How To Be Angry

“He who is slow to anger has great understanding, but he who has a hasty temper exalts folly (Proverbs14:29

Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, with all malice (Ephesian 4:31)

“In your anger do not sin”: Do not let the sun go down while you are

still angry, Ephesians4:26

Anger is an emotion that can be righteous or it can lead to sin. The Bible is rather clear that anger is not sin, but rather it is what we do with anger that leads to sin. The Word of God is also clear that we are to speak to each other face to face, when we are angry. But we often practice a Passive-Aggressive way of dealing with one another and sometimes we do it in our Lord’s Church. Being Passive-Aggressive is really masking true aggression. It is indirectly trying to assault someone. How is this done in the church? Common practices are withholding contributions, joking that the pastor works only on Sunday, or by constantly using sarcasm behind someone’s back. All is done indirectly, but never face to face. In our homes it is often done by giving our spouse or children the “silent treatment”, which is actually just pouting until we think we get our way. The goal of this behavior is to get even deceitfully. No emotion is mentioned more in God’s Word than anger, 275 times. Unbridled anger actually destroys the personal harboring the bitterness, but sabotages God’s love. Our true identity in Christ is cast aside when we choose to embrace perpetual anger and bitterness instead of the Love of God for us in Jesus Christ. Thankfully our God has not abandoned us in our sin, but allows us to repent and get our lives back on track with Him. Imagine if our Lord said to us, “you want to be bitter?, then be bitter the rest of your life!” Unfortunately some of us choose this path, but our Lord offers a way out to find joy again and to find peace. For ultimately, when he opens His arms to us and says, “Peace be with you”, that is what He wants for us as His people.

In His Service,

Pastor

From the Elders Being Prepared: At the last Council of Ministry meeting , I did not respond in proper way when questioned as to why 'I had not been more supportive of their way'. I am sor-ry that I choose to leave the meeting. I should have applied the lesson from last Sun-day's Gospel 'To always be prepared to share in reason you have in the hope of Jesus ... To respond with gentleness, kindness.'. As we prepare for to meet at the next voters meeting, may we find leaders and vote for those who find this same hope in the love of Jesus. We can choose sides or find a common goal of hope in Jesus way. Please plan on attending our voters meeting on May 20th and prepare for a new hope in Pilgrim. May God Bless. Thank You, Lloyd Hasche. Board of Elders.

PILGRIM ANNIVERSARY This year marks the,75th anniversary of Pilgrim's incorporation as a church. It has also been 20 years since we moved out to our current location. We are looking for individuals who would be interested in planning a celebration of these milestones! Perhaps a special service or a meal, a gathering of photos or mementos of our journey so far. If interested, please contact Kathy or Tom Skinner! (Note, there is a 5th Sunday coming up July 29, possible date? ) Look forward to whatever comes about!

The Pilgrim Lutheran youth would like to offer their babysitting services for the voter’s meeting on May 20th. Instead of having Bible Study we will play with your youngsters in the school age room while you attend the voter’s meeting. If you have any questions please get in touch with Jennifer or David Anderson or one of the youth. Thank you!
