World Environment Day- 5 June, 2020

Theme: Time for Nature

Like every year, this year the World Environment Day was observed on 5th

June, 2020 at KVK

Chinyalisaur (Uttarkashi). The function began with special welcome and assembly speech by Dr.

Pankaj Nautiyal, In-charge KVK who emphasized on protecting environment and care for nature.

All the KVK officials and field staff participated in the ceremony. After the assembly sapling

plantation was done by KVK staff in the farm’s premises.

This year’s hosts are Columbia, in partnership with Germany and the theme was “Time for

Nature” to focus on the role of environment in providing the essential infrastructure that supports

life on Earth and human development. UN Secretary-General António Guterres tweeted that, “To

care for humanity, we must care for nature. As we work to build back better, let’s put nature

where it belongs - at the heart of our decision making. On #WorldEnvironmentDay and every

day, it’s time #ForNature".

Young generation has a pivotal role in preventing the loss of biodiversity and preserving nature

for our future and amidst the ongoing global pandemic (COVID 19), it is high time to wake up

and realize the importance of nature in healing the mind, body and soul. Nevertheless,

afforestation, reforestation and minimizing deforestation is always important to improve the air

quality and environmental health as a whole. At the end, all the participants were appealed to

adopt green ways of life and also to create awareness regarding the same.
