Workshop Descrip-on Undertaking a suicide risk assessment is not without its complexi6es. One size does not fit all. This advanced level workshop provides the opportunity for par6cipants to depth their knowledge and competency in the “art” of assessment and management of suicide through empathe6c dialogue rather than a more tradi6onal assessment interview process. Par6cipants will explore how factors such as nuance, context, culture, gender, socio-economic background, the quality and length of the therapeu6c rela6onship impact on the process and the outcomes of an assessment. Recent coroners’ findings highlighted the importance of prac55oners, especially counsellors in private prac5ce, regularly upda5ng their knowledge and competency in suicide risk assessment The workshop provides detailed cri6cal analysis of the ra6onale and research that informs the ques6ons in a standard assessment process.
