WORKING ON WIND ENERGY

RWE Innogy

OUR WIND FARMS IN THE NETHERLANDS

Wind energy, where it is possible

Our country is relatively small and densely populated.

Good wind sites are scarce. So we are searching for

sites where modern wind turbines may fi t. We always

take into consideration the neighbourhood as well as

nature and environment.

Our development portfolio holds projects amounting

to a total of around 300 megawatts. Part of this

concerns the replacement of existing wind turbines

by newer types with higher capacities (‘repowering’).

Consequently we will be able to make optimal use of

proven wind locations.

Construction as well as operation

Wind energy projects require perseverance.

And when fi nally a wind farm is in operation, it will

be so for 15 to 20 years. We do not limit ourselves

to project development, but also construct, operate

and maintain our wind farms. This is done in good

consultation with neighbours and partners. And that

leads to good relationships that last over the years.

In the Netherlands we operate around 160 wind turbines. Together these represent an installed capacity of over 200 megawatts. In this way we help make power generation more sustainable.

OVER 25 YEARS OF EXPERIENCE

After the oil crises in the 1970’s, wind energy became

a serious candidate for renewable power generation.

Our predecessors took up the challenge and in 1987

the fi rst large wind farm in the Netherlands became

a fact.

And in 1995 Essent was the fi rst power company to

introduce the product Groene Stroom (Green Power)

on the market, i.e. electricity generated by means

of renewable sources, like wind power.

Since 2009 we are part of RWE. Our team is

embedded in RWE Innogy, the business unit with

a focus on renewable energy projects.

We are working on wind energy, for now and for the

future! Not just by developing feasible projects, but

also by realizing, operating and servicing our wind

turbines.

Mission

RWE Innogy’s mission statement says it all:

“To be trusted leaders in sustainability, renewable

energy and innovative technology.”

Wind farm Westereems

This wind farm in Eemshaven has an installed

capacity of 156 megawatts. It is the largest wind

power plant on Dutch soil. Its 52 wind turbines

produce enough green power for around

135,000 households. Mid 2012 the capacity was

increased by two wind turbines of 6.15 megawatts

each.
