to your application

Theory
Boooring….
But
• We are going to do things bit differently this time
• Method is called ”näyttelykävely” ”presentation walking”
Phase 1
• Division to groups by using basic 1,2,3,4,y,z,..,1,2.. method
Phase 2
• First person from each group will come to me
• Second person from each group will come to me
• Etc. Until all groups are emptyNew groups are now formed but
remember your old group number you will go back to that later on
Phase 3
• Groups did receive a topic
• 10 minutes to make a small presentation about that topic use.
• Be sure that everybody in the group understand your topic and is able to present it to the others
Phase 4
• Reform old groups
• One by one your group will go around every presentation point and the person responsible for that presentation will teach that topic to the other members in your group
• Others may ask questions from the presenter if something is unclear
Digital media
• Media elements:– Text, photograph, graphics, video, animation, sound,
music
• Multimedia:– Uses one or more media elements.
• Hypermedia:– User has possibility to make choices and affect the
presentation .
• Crossmedia:– Content is represented with more than one
distribution channel. e.g. internet, video, tv, etc.
Using text
• It is slower to read from the screen than paper– Monitor properties affect– Size of screen is different from paper
• Pivot screens helps in this problem
• You have to use bigger font that in the paper– You have to consider different screen resolutions
• It’s important to separate the text in the screen to clear sections with simple header
RGB / CMYK
• Usually it can be chosen which color model to use– If you are going to use screen as viewing
device, use RGB – If you are going to use paper, use CMYK
• Change between these models may lose some colors, since RGB cannot show all the colors of CMYK and vice versa
Bitmap resolution for different distribution channels
• Screens 70-100dpi (dots per inch)– 70-100ppi (pixels per inch)
• Laser- and ink printers, 300dpi – 100ppi
• Newspaper, 600dpi– 150-200ppi
• Prochures and magazines, 1200dpi– 200-266ppi
• Artworks– Over 300ppi
Image file-modes
• Bitmap images– TIFF (Good format to be used in interchange between
programs)– GIF (web)– JPEG (web)– PNG (web)
• Vector graphics– EPS (Good format to be used in interchange between
programs)– WMF (windows metafile)– SVG (web, plugin)– SWF (Flash, web, plugin, animation)
Common image operations
• Cropping and changing size • Color correction
– Picture is too dimm or light– Change of tone
• Sharpening / soften• Removing dust or scratches• Adding or removing picture elements• Adding text• Different filters
Using videos
• Good video is illustrative– Do not use video unless it really brings something to
the presentation
• User must have a possibility to control the video– Stop, pause, play, rewind, etc.
• Video must not be too long, you can tell a lot in under a minute video
• Usually videos are compressed heavily since they require much space and bandwidth– Size, fps, format
Using animations
• Same intention as in videos
• Most commonly used formats– GIF-animation– Shockwave– Flash– Realmedia– Animation is transformed into some video
format
