If you have been following the ANGEL migration from Black‐board, you have witnessed the complexities a detailed process like this presents. Beginning in January, an implementation timeline was presented to guide various “teams” of DeSales and ANGEL constituents through the migration process. A thorough documentation of that process can be viewed at http://desales2angel.wordpress.com, a Web log (or Blog)detailing the milestones and events of the migration. The Blog was also a major communication hub for everyone involved in the configuration, customization, and evaluation of ANGEL. It is still a valuable resource devoted to teaching and learning with ANGEL at DeSales.
During the ACCESS summer sessions, pilot programs using ANGEL LMS led the way for further refinements. Our next mi‐gration milestone is the university ANGEL rollout scheduled for August 15, 2009.

you can save
valuable file
space by having
all courses link to
those files in the
LOR.
The primary purpose of the LOR is to accommodate the storage, reuse and sharing of instructional content. All faculty are encouraged to use LORs especially if they are teaching the same content for more than one semester or if they are teaching several sections of the same course.
All faculty have their own personal LOR. In addition, LORs can be created for specific courses , departments, divisions, etc. so that users can share content items.
You can access your LOR from the Power strip. See the red arrow. If you edit or add to the content residing in the LOR and link to its content , you will concurrently update all your courses .
In the LOR, LINK ungraded-type content like PowerPoints and documents; COPY graded-type content such as assessments and discussion forum.
LOR (Learning Object Repository)
DeSales has two servers to han‐dle streaming media, an Apple QuickTime server (Mac) and a Windows Media server (PC).
Streaming Audio/Video is deliv‐ered digitally from a server com‐puter to your computer over the Internet via a modem or broad‐band connection ready to view and hear in real time without waiting for the entire file to download.
The most popular media players are Microsoft’s Windows Media player and Apple’s QuickTime Player. Macs use QuickTime and not Windows Media Player. To allow your QuickTime software
to view Windows Media Files, you can download a free soft‐ware called Flip4Mac WMV at http://www.telestream.net/flip4mac wmv/overview.htm.
Instructors are ultimately re‐sponsible for securing copyright permission from the publisher/producer for DEIT to post the videos.

Master Courses
Master Courses are templates that are created for courses or a group of courses. It allows you to import a complete course as the “Master” directly into a new course. It never contains student data and it alleviates degradation of links and data that come with re‐peated copying.
A Master Course is advisable for courses:
• that are being taught frequently
• that need to have certain elements included within them
• that are taught every semester by one faculty member serv‐ing as an alternative to a copying a course or importing an archive
• that has multiple sections for a single course with many fac‐ulty teaching it
• that need to present program consistency and quality
To create or recommend a Master Course, contact DEIT.

New Mobile Wireless Laptop Cart
Dooling Hall has a new mobile cart equipped with 15 new Mac laptops for students, one new Mac laptop for instructors, and a new printer to use in classes. Also in‐cluded with this grant‐funded technology package is a wireless Internet connection. A mobile vid‐eoconference unit allowing room‐to‐room videoconferencing over the Internet is available to allow this connection from Dooling Hall classrooms.

ANGEL Fundamentals If you were in the ANGEL fundamentals workshop, you learned about important basic activities such as: logging on, navigating, customizing, and adding content. You learned the difference between your personal homepage and your course homepage. You also earned your ANGEL Wings by completing an Instructor Sandbox Course.
ANGEL Assignments & Grading In this workshop you learned how to create an assignment using the drop box and create the drop box. You also learned how to customize the tab settings for submissions, reviews, and assignments. ANGEL TIP– if Drop Box assignments are linked to a LOR, all submissions will post to the LOR and not within the course.
ANGEL Communication Tools Basically all the ways you can communicate with your stu‐dents: Course mail, Course news and events, Announce‐ments, Live Chat, Live Office, Polling, Elluminate, and Course Roster‐all located under the Communicate Tab in ANGEL. ANGEL TIP – check the student view so you can see what your course will look like to them by clicking on the
Moving your Bb Course to ANGEL If you went to the Blackboard to ANGEL workshop, you learned about the fundamental differences between these two systems and new features found in ANGEL. You also were able to move your own Blackboard course into ANGEL and see first‐hand the results.
If you have participated in any of the online or face‐to‐face workshops offeredby the DEIT Staff, you are well on your way to being an ANGEL expert.
