From the Principal’s Desk

I would like to congratulate our students and staff

for a positive start to Term 3.

I would like to congratulate our students and staff for a positive start to Term 3. As much as possible, we have had

business as usual with productive learning happening in classrooms and some really exciting opportunities on offer out-

side the classroom. We are still restricted in some respects and continue to follow the advice as it is updated when we

are planning activities.

I am very pleased that our school jumpers have arrived in the uniform shop. It has been difficult for some students to

come to school in the correct jumper and we realise many families are having financial difficulties so we are offering

jumpers for the discounted price of $15 for this term (one per student). As always, if you need help to buy any uniform

items, please contact your child’s deputy principal (Mr Henderson Years 7, 9, 11 and Ms Bear Years 8, 10 and 12).

The Athletics Carnival will be held on Wednesday. I am really looking forward to seeing students come and participate.

We haven’t had a carnival since the start of the year so I hope students take the opportunity to wear house colours,

participate in events and support each other. Don’t forget this helps you achieve merits. We have to modify what we

offer in the canteen due to COVID restrictions, but we will ensure we follow the current regulations to help keep every-

one safe.

This is an exciting time for our Year 10 students as they consider their future career and work through the subject

selection process. There is a lot of information about careers activities and subject selections. Please have a look

through this newsletter as there are lots of useful resources to help make informed choices. Year 8 and 9 will be making

elective choices later in the term.

A total of 21 students from Year 10, 11 and 12 attended a two day YEP 11 workshop in the school library this week.

The full day workshops will continue every Tuesday and Wednesday (Thursday 6 August in place of the Athletics Carnival) for the

next three weeks.

The eleven module program enables students to:

• Learn from successful business mentors

• Learn the 12 foundation skills required for any job

• Gain the confidence to sell their skills and experience to employers

Students also learn how to develop an entrepreneurial mindset, problem solving and decision making, customer engagement,

teamwork and leadership, planning and organising, persuasive communication tools and undertake mock interviews.

The free YEP (Youth Entrepreneur Program) was run by YEP Coordinator Cherie Topfer.

The program forms part of the NSW Government Educational Pathways Pilot Program (EPPP) running at Woolgoolga High School

to ensure our young people are independent and leave school well prepared for higher education, training or work.

YEP 11 Program

Year 11 Hospitality and PDHPE students completed their First Aid Certificate in the school library last Friday.

Students learnt about what to do in an emergency situation, and how to respond correctly to an anaphylaxis emergency.

The first aid course enabled the Hospitality students to complete their final competency towards a Certificate II in Food

and Beverage.

The course was organised by TAS teacher Vanessa Fraser, run by Andrew Nelson from Surf Life Saving Australia, and

supported by the NSW Government Education Pathways Pilot Program (EPPP).

TAS teacher Vanessa Fraser issued a special thanks to Andrew for an entertaining session.

Maths Riddle

Stefan and his brother Damon went to meet up with 4 other couples from their coven. Some

vampires bumped elbows with each other, but no vampire bumped elbows with their partner, and

no vampire bumped his or her own elbow.

Stefan then asked each vampire, including Damon, “How many vampires did you bump

elbows with?” Each vampire answered honestly, and surprisingly each vampire gave a different

answer!

How many vampires did Damon bump elbows with? And how many vampires did Stefan bump

elbows with?

Remember to put your answer in the blue box outside the Maths staff room for your chance to win a $5 canteen voucher!

The answer to the last riddle was 56 and the winner of that $5 canteen voucher will be announced in the notices on

Monday.

Dear Parents / Caregivers / Students

The events of 2020 have thrown challenges at us all and changed the way we do business. As a result the subject selec-

tion process has also changed a little for Year 10 choosing subjects for their pattern of study leading to completion of the

HSC in 2022.

To meet the current COVID safe guidelines our school will not be able to hold large parent and student information

sessions.

Over the past weeks students in Year 10 have taken part in curriculum discussions with Teachers, Head Teachers and our schools Careers Advisor. This has been the start of a process that aims to help plan the most appropriate pattern of study for the next two years for students who will sit the HSC in 2022.

Our subject selection survey is the next step in gathering information that allows our school to offer the best fit of courses for our student body.

Information about all of the courses offered at Woolgoolga High School can be found in the Senior Selection Handbook (under the Parent Information tab on the school’s website).

Other Useful Information may be found at

Universities Admission Centre (UAC) https://www.uac.edu.au/subject-compass/#/

NSW Educational Standards Authority (NESA) http://www.boardofstudies.nsw.edu.au/syllabus_hsc/

All students, regardless of their plans for 2021 schooling or employment are required to complete this online

process.

Students, if you are still unsure of which senior subjects may interest you, please continue to make use of the expert

advice on Senior Courses available from Head Teachers and Subject Teachers. Please also discuss your career and
