The link is: www.wkfinetools.com Take a look! You may really enjoy it. Thank you, Roger. Roger Hearn also brought a Moxon Vise to the board meeting that he had made and suggested it for a workshop. It is real cool, simple in design and very useful. Roger has offered to run the workshop, but more to come on that later. Remember to be a friend and bring a friend to the meeting! -Jim Laverty MDWW President May Program For the May program we will review our discussion about upcoming workshops. Some workshops have already been scheduled, and Pat will present the ones that we determined to be the most popular. We will also be discussing our favorite jigs and fixtures in the woodshop. Everyone is encouraged to bring their favorite jig and show them to the club. And last, but not least, we will have a skill building segment.

Candle Box Workshop

Jack has been working away milling lumber for the

upcoming Candle Box Workshop! The workshop will be held

on Saturday, May 20th at both Jack Dalton’s and Bill

Jefferson’s shops. The wood species for the boxes this time around will be sapele. However, anyone that would like to bring material to

make their own tops out of a figured or contrasting wood

species may do so. The required dimensions for the tops is

1/2” thick, 5” wide, and 14” long. Mary Jane and Sally will also be serving pulled pork for lunch

on the day of the workshop! Don’t miss that! Anyone that

would like to sign up for the workshop may do so via email or

at the upcoming meeting. The cost for this workshop will be

$20 per person. See you there!

Bi-Plane Workshop

David Southern and Brian Napier will be hosting a

workshop to build toy Bi-Planes on June 3-4 at Pat Lemley’s

and birch. These planes make excellent gifts for friends and

family members! You can sign up for this workshop by either emailing

David at [email protected] or via the sign-

up sheet that will be at the upcoming meeting. The cost for

the workshop will be $35 per person.

McMartin & Beggins

We enjoyed yet another wonderful field trip in May.

This time we headed out past St. Michael’s to visit the

McMartin & Beggins Furniture Makers. Their operation

is quite impressive, with a sizeable bench room that is

actually bigger than the power tool section of the shop.

Jim Beggins showed us a table that he was building for

the governors mansion, and Jim McMartin took us out to

tour their expansive outdoor lumber stock pile.

Member Projects

Baxter Smith shared some recent turnings he has done at our

March Meeting. The Platter is made out of Claro walnut and the

lidded box features a beautiful curly maple top. Great job Baxter!

Jack Dalton showed off some more of the signs he has been

making for family and friends. Looking great, Jack!

Don Connell showed a mantle

clock that he recently made.

Bob Wolak showed us some

picture frames that he built.

David Southern and

Brian Napier have

recently built 42 toys

sailboats for their

galleries to sell. The

boats were

constructed from a

mix of hardwood

species and featured

hand sewn sails and

town names painted

on the backs of them.
