The Board of Fire Commissioners stated that the women must observe the same discipline as permanent firemen (December 4th 1941). They did comprehensive training, field activities, and were issued with a certificate. After the WFA weredisbanded 26th July 1945,women were banned fromemployment in the fireservices, as was the case withmany post-war industries. It was not until the NewSouth Wales Anti-Discrimination Act 1977(NSW) was passed that thischanged. In May 1982 thefirst lady firefighters (sic)entered the NSW FireBrigades. 6. The WFA was established in a number of statesin Australia. The information contained in thispresentation is limited to the NSW WFA.
