Letter from The President
Dear Members
A big welcome to you all dear members after a long summer vacation. With this month of October, we will be starting a new term in the Women’s League, full of great activities, programs and events. We will have a variety of programs with inspiring speakers and topics of interest to you all. We are also planning exciting trips and mini meetings. I seize this opportunity to thank our active board members for their support and energy. In retrospect, we had a very successful 2017‐18 year term. Our activities proved to be both interesting and instructive in many ways. In addition, many friendships were made and more acquaintances have developed. This is in line with the essence and the true spirit of the Women’s League. As you all know, the purpose of the Women’s League is to promote a broad acquaintance, to socialize, learn and support one another and establish social network. Our end of year party on May 14th on the lawn of Marquand House was a huge success. It included Russian folkloric dancing with very talented young dancers performing. It was an afternoon to remember and the audience appreciated the show! This is also in line with the true spirit of the Women’s League. As you know, the Women’s League emphasizes the importance of international friendship which gives us an opportunity to develop a mutual understanding of our different cultures. I am sure that we will have a successful year with the support, cooperation and the help of the Executive Board members, and the sincere assistance of all its members. Salwa Damiani

A wonderful trip to Jrebta took place on 10thMay, 2018 organized by Mrs. Rou3a Baltaji and helped by Mrs. Zeina Arab. The Women’s Leaque Ladies first stop was at Biomass where breakfast was served, followed by an interesting tour of the farm and plantation. Biomass is a farm located in Jrebta ‐ Batroun that has been farming organic products since 2007. The second stop was at Beit Rafqa, a caring community for the golden years. It is located alongside Rafqa’s shrine as part of St Joseph monastery in Jrebta. Beit Rafqa is an elderly home that provides the elderly with attention and medical care in a warm family environment. The last stop was a visit and tour to The Smar Jbeil Castle. Smar Jbeil is one of the oldest villages in Lebanon. In the middle ages, the Maronites took it as a refuge from their enemies’ attacks. The Castle was built on a strategic hill showing from its western side the Mediterranean Coast from Jbeil to Tripoli and from its Eastern side the mountains of Lebanon especially the famous Cedars of God in Bsharre. The beautiful day ended with a delicious lunch at Nasmet Ghinwa, Amchit, a Lebanese seafood restaurant located next to a beach with awesome sea view. The well planned trip was enjoyed by all The WL Ladies. Thanks to Mrs. Baltaji and to Mrs. Arab for making this trip possible during the absence of Mrs. Hala Farah, the league’s trip chairperson who was in the States welcoming her first grand daughter Tayma so Congratulations to Hala!!
