MUSCLES• Muscles are made of the same material.
Muscles are made of an elastic tissue, like
a rubber band.
• There are tons of muscles in your body.
There are about 700 skeletal muscles in
your body!
• About 2/5 of our body weight is muscles.
Types of Muscles
• There are three kinds of muscles:
– Voluntary muscles
– Smooth muscles
– Cardiac muscles
Voluntary Muscles • Voluntary muscles are also
called skeletal muscles.
• Move bones
• made up of a group of
muscle tissues bound
together.
• look like rodlike cells lined
up parallel to each other.
• Voluntary muscles are
muscles we can control.
Smooth Muscles • Smooth muscles are also called
involuntary muscles.
• Contract slowly and move substances
through the organs they surround.
• Thin layers or sheets with one layer
over the other.
• Smooth muscles you can’t control.
• Are usually found in the stomach,
small intestine, and other hollow
organs like the bladder.
Cardiac Muscles
• Cardiac muscles form the
wall of the heart.
• Their purpose is to pump
blood.
• Have to work together.
• Cardiac muscles has a Y-
shaped interwoven cells.
• Cardiac muscles are muscle
you can’t control.
Muscles and Bones
Muscles are
everywhere in your
body. Most muscles
are connected to
bones. Voluntary
muscles are attached
to bones by the
muscles' tendons.
Face Muscles
• Many muscles in the
face are not attached
to bones, but to each
other or the skin.
• There are over 40
muscles in your face.
Face muscles
• We also use our
muscles to eat,
speak, and blink.
• We use face
muscles to make
different
expressions.
The Biggest Muscle• Your biggest
muscle is the
Gluteus
Maximus, also
known as your
rear end.
• It helps keep us
standing
upright.
Smallest Muscle
The smallest muscle
in our body is the
strapedius muscle.
It is located in the
ear, and helps filter
out loud noises from
the ear.
Hardest Working Muscle
• The hardest
working muscle
is the heart.
• pumps about 2
oz. of blood
every
heartbeat.
How to make your muscles stronger.
• To keep your body
healthy, you should eat
good foods and
exercise.
• You can exercise your
body by jogging or
riding your bike.
Conclusion
• Muscles are an important part of our
life.
• We wouldn't be able to do anything.
We would just be a big blob.
