This month for the BLOB, Harry Potter is the theme on the majority of the paper. If you have never read the Harry Potter series or seen the movies, this article is the basics of the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry is the school of magic in the Harry Potter series. Hog-warts teaches witches and wizards from the ages of eleven to eighteen to be able to perform magic. The princi-pal of Hogwarts is Albus Per-cival Wulfric Brain Dumble-dore. In order to get to Hog-warts, you must ride the Hog-warts Express on September 1. To get on the train you must go to platform 9 ¾ at King’s Cross Station in Lon-don and be on the train by 11 o’clock in the morning. In order to get on platform 9 ¾, you must run through the brick wall that indicates where plat-forms 9 and 10 are. You can only go through this wall if you are a witch or wizard and the wall “closes” at 11 o’clock, when the train leaves. When you get to Hogwarts, you are sorted into one of the four houses. The four houses are Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, and Slytherin. Everyone is sorted in their first year on the first day during dinner. All the first years are brought in after the rest of the students
and teachers are seated.

The Best Literature on the Block
The first years go and stand on the steps to the platform that the teachers sit on then they wait for their name to be called. A professor calls the students one by one to come sit on the platform and have the sorting hat placed on their head. The sorting hat is an enchanted hat that can speak. The sorting hat looks into the per-son’s capabilities and personality and says the name of the house that they will fit into best. The student then goes and sits with their new house’s designated
table and the next name is called. After dinner, the head boy takes all the first years to their house dormi-tory where they will sleep. Their classes begin the next day. The students at Hogwarts can play a sport called Quidditch on their flying brooms. Quidditch is played by two teams that each have seven people. There are three chasers,
two beaters, one keeper, and one seek-er. There are also four balls used in this game: the quaffle, two bludgers, and the golden snitch. The chasers compete for the quaffle and try to pass it to their teammates and get it through one of the three hoops on the opposite side of the field. You can take the quaffle by inter-cepting a pass or knocking it out of someone’s hands. The keepers job is to stay by the opposing team’s hoops and try to block the quaffle from passing through any of

the hoops. If the keeper fails to guard the goal and the
quaffle passes through, the person who passed it in gets
ten points for their team. The beaters have a very im-
portant job; they work with the bludgers. The
bludger is an enchanted ball that targets each
team’s seeker. The beater’s job is to use the
wooden bats they are given to hit the bludger
away from the seeker and hit it towards the other
team. The seeker has the most important job of
all, to find the golden snitch. The golden snitch
is a small, enchanted ball that has wings. The
snitch is so fast that you can barely see it as it
flies. The seeker who catches the golden snitch
receives 150 points for their team, ends the
match, and most likely wins the game. Each
house has their own team to play against the oth-
er houses. Quidditch is a major

Dear Blobert,
My grades are mostly D’s and F’s. I know I should
stay in for lunch recess, but I don’t want to. What
should I do?

Dear Anonymous,
You should stay in for lunch recess to get your
grades up. Believe me, your D’s and F’s will not
help a future application.

event at Hogwarts and in the magical
world.
Hogwarts is a wizarding school
that teaches witches and wizards to use
their skills. Hogwarts has many activi-
ties that students can participate in,
some more dangerous than others. The
school tries to accommodate each per-
son while giving them a good educa-
tion. Many great witches and wizards
mentioned in this series went to Hog-
warts and are now very successful in the
wizarding.

The Sorting Hat By Sammie W.
Do you ever wonder how
the Harry Potter Charac-
ters were divided
into their different
houses? Well, it all
starts during en-
rollment. The pro-
fessors pull the stu-
dents aside one by
one and take them
to a room where they put a
special hat on them called
“The Sorting Hat.”
Hat looks at all of the different
characteristics of a person and
places them in a
specific house
based on what their
results are. After
this process, the
students are sent to
their house where
they learn all sorts
of new traits such as magic and
making potions. Have a magi-
cal month!

Athletes of Month By Bailey B.
Maddie has shown amazing im-
provement already in the basket-
ball season. Maddie is a very
hard worker and as a reward got
to play in an A-game last Satur-
day.
Emily is very coachable.
Emily works hard every day to
better herself and improve her
skills.
Bailey has really stepped up
as leader this season. She
works on and off the court to
improve her skills, which is
very noticeable.

Fabulous Faculty Abi M.
Mrs. Aldrich is this month’s fabulous faculty! She is our
new clerical assistant for the special education department
and a paraprofessional. She
was chosen because she
works very well with the stu-
dents, runs our detention dili-
gently, and gets along great
with the other staff members.
She does a great job overall.
Good job Mrs. Aldrich! Keep it up.
Wacky Laws By Bailey B.
In 1542 Parliament passed The Witchcraft Act. This crime was
punishable by death. This act is gladly not in place anymore
because it was repealed twenty years later in 1562.
In 1763 Parliament passed a new act that placed fines or im-
prisonment on people who claimed that they had magical
powers.
Sect.365 says that in Canada it is illegal to practice witchcraft,
sorcery, enchantment, or conjuration of any kind.

Current Events By Jadyn P.
J.K. Rowling is the author of
many books but is most
famously known for her
Harry Potter series. Well,
she has come out with
three new Harry Potter
books besides her current
book Harry Potter and
the Cursed Child. They
were released on Sept
6 in 2016. You can buy
them for $3 each on her website at
Pottermore.com. The name of her
three books are Short Stories from
Hogwarts of Power, Politics, and
Pesky Poltergeist;
Short Stories from Hogwarts of Hero-
ism, Hardship, and Dangerous
Hobbies; and Hogwarts an In-
complete & Unreliable Guide.
Each book is about 10,000
words long. The first book
gives readers a glimpse into
the “ruthless roots” of Profes-
sor Dolores Umbridge and the
relationship between Professor
Horace Slughorn and Volde-
mort. The second book focuses on se-
crets behind the walls of the wizard-
ing school. The last book is just a
guide into the wonderful world of
Harry Potter.

Recipe of the Month By Abi M.
Did You Know? By Bailey B.
Mrs. Weasley’s Magically Easy Fudge If you are a PB addict, you can add a bit of peanut butter to this batch. But you can add nuts
or just go au natural. Use a 6×8 pan and the pieces aren’t super thick. If you use a bigger pan
or want thick fudge, make at least 1 1/2 batches or 2.
1 cup organic sugar (I use raw sugar for a deeper
flavor)
1/4 cup milk of choice
5 tbsp. margarine
1 cup chocolate chips
1/2 teas. vanilla
optional: 2 tbsp. peanut butter
optional: sea salt
Line a small pan (see notes in recipe intro) with parchment or foil. In a saucepan
over medium heat, combine the sugar, milk and margarine. Whisking constantly,
bring to a boil. Lower heat to a simmer and cook until the sugar is dissolved com-
pletely. Remove from heat and whisk in the chocolate chips and vanilla until
smooth. Spread into prepared pan. If using peanut butter, scatter blobs of it
around the pan and swirl with a butter knife. Sprinkle salt on top.
Let fudge set in fridge for at least an hour before cutting. Because this fudge must
stay refrigerated, it is not recommended to send it by owl. Credits: nomnomnomblog.com
Did you know that Hermione Granger’s name from Harry Potter was
almost Hermione Pickle?
Did you know that Fred and George Weasley from Harry Potter were
born on April Fool’s Day?
Did you know that platform 9 3/4 where Hogwarts students get on the
train was filmed between platforms 4 and 5 at London’s King’s Cross
Station?
Did you know that Sirius Black and his siblings from Harry Potter
have unusual names because they are named after astronomical
objects?

Critics Corner By Hunter L.
Sing is an intense, yet laugh-
able movie. It’s about a koala
bear who wants to make
money by putting on a sing-
ing contest and offering
the winner one thousand dol-
lars, but trouble starts when
his assistant makes a terrible
mistake that gets some bad
people involved…
Sully is an exciting experience to
watch. Based on the 2009 true
story about Captain Chesley
(Sully) Sullenberger who saved
155 lives when he crash landed
his plane into the Hudson River
instead of attempting a runway
landing, but some people say he
should have landed his plane on
the runway and that causes a
large debate that could end
Sully’s career…
