Silver Center
WISE Silver Center
The WISE Silver Center became official in January 2011 when licensed by the State of California Department of Social Services. Cecilia Chavez assumed the position of Program Director in May 2011. Cecilia has over 25 years of experience working with older adults. She not only brings her knowledge and expertise, but also a special passion for serving seniors with memory and physical impairments. Cecilia is bilingual, which is crucial with the large Hispanic population of Santa Ana. Her empathy for the needs of the elderly and their caregivers will assure that the WISE Silver Center provides a warm, safe, and fun environment for its participants.
Cecilia converted the vision of a WISE Silver Center into reality. The Enderle Room has been adapted to meet the needs of the program participants and now features an area for physical activities such as exercise and mobility games, a social area for shared activities and arts & crafts, and a therapeutic area for group, cognitive and relaxation activities. Cecilia works tirelessly in outreaching to the community for referrals through doctors’ offices, hospitals, senior centers, religious centers, and a large number of other senior service providers. An exciting “Lunch to Launch” on June 30th drew over fifty senior service professionals who learned about the services of adult day programs in general and the WISE Silver Center in particular. The enthusiastic attendees will be the vehicle through which future program participants will be introduced to the Silver Center. We look forward to a fully operational program before the end of the summer.
Steps to Independence
Steps to Independence
The Steps to Independence Program provided a home for 93 women last year, when they needed it the most. Women find
themselves homeless for many different reasons; some have endured a catastrophic financial set‐back, others have struggled with
alcohol or substance abuse and chronic homelessness. For our youngest women, turning 18 meant that they were emancipated
from the only home they had.
The “Steps” program provides safe and affordable housing, employment assistance, case management, financial literacy training,
healthy meals, clothing, individual and group psychological counseling, and linkages to the community.
The goal for all of the women in our program is to become financially stable and in a posi on to contribute posi vely to the
community. WISEPlace has helped more than 6,500 over the past 24 years.
Financial Empowerment
Our Financial Empowerment Program teaches women basic financial literacy. Our program starts with employment and ends a er
the successful transi on into housing. Women that complete our program know how to compete in today’s job market, create a
budget, and save for the future.
Against the Odds
WISEPlace serves single women that do not have children, have grown children, or are not currently
living with their children. Maria, like many others, came to WISEPlace determined to reunify with her
small children. A vic m of long term family abuse, her life took an even more devasta ng turn when
her husband abandoned her and took their three young children to Mexico. Without a job or a place
to live, Maria hit rock bo om. At WISEPlace she found full me employment, counseling, and the
strength to fight for her girls. Today, Maria is working full me and living with her children. She has
hope in the future for not only herself, but her children. In her own words, “WISEPlace changed my
life in ways I never expected, I am truly grateful”.
Posi ve Step
Our Posi ve Step Program is a second step home that helps women that have been chronically homeless build upon their
success in the Steps to Independence Program. Women can stay an addi onal 24 months, working through the condi ons that
led to homelessness in their life. With a focus on health, wellness, and stability, the Posi ve Step program helps remove
longstanding barriers to independent living.
WISE Step Home
The WISE Step Home is our housing placement and assistance program. Through a partnership with the City of Santa Ana,
WISEPlace now helps prevent homelessness for women and women with children in Santa Ana. In addi on, we work to
rapidly rehouse women in our program, providing case management during a transi on period. Another collabora on with
Affordable Housing Access, helps us support women as they move into affordable apartment complexes throughout Orange
County.
Remarkable Woman
Eileen Padberg was our nomina on this year for the Na onal Associa on of Women Business Owners
Remarkable Woman Award. She brings energy and enthusiasm to our Posi ve Step Program. Twice a month,
Eileen visits the house to teach life skills, mentor, and help the women develop a sense of community. She is a
remarkable role model for the women.
Second Step
Volunteers
We say “Thank You” to all of the “WISEPlace Volunteers” who have given so generously of their
me, energy, talent, skill, and resources to help our residents achieve real independence.

I thank God everyday since I have been here at WISEPlace because he knew where I needed to be. My trouble is not just about being homeless it’s about
getting along with others. I have been put in a place with a bunch of sisters to learn how to share & belong & exist. I am so very grateful for what I am learning
every day in every way.
