Wisdom Talks About WORKLesson One, Level Three

Why Is Work So Hard? When somebody tells you that they have a job for you to do,

are you excited? Or do you think, "Oh, boy, this is going to be

hard/boring/not fun..."

Is work good or bad? The Bible has an answer for this question.

Read Genesis 2:89 and Genesis 2:1517According to Genesis 2:15, God put Adam into the Garden of Eden to work and take care of it. In other words, God created Adam to do a job  to work! The work that God gave Adam to

do was good work. Unfortunately, Adam and Eve did something that made their work really hard. They disobeyed

God and sinned.

A Secret Code

In yesterday's lesson, we learned that God created people to

work. Work is good, even though it is hard.

Today, we are going to read a Bible passage that tells us more about work. Read the passage below, then use the

numbers to discover the secret message below about work.

Super Secret Assignment:

Do you have a home to live in? Clothes to wear? Food to eat? If you do, I bet that you also have a mom and dad or someone who

loves you and works really hard so that you can have these things. Write a note to this person today thanking them for

working so hard for you. You can also pray and ask God to bless their work. Then, let them know that you are praying for their

work in your note.

Wisdom Talks About WORKWhy Should You Work Hard? Are You Complaining?

Read 1 Peter 4:10-11 Colossians 3:23251. According to these verses, why should we work

hard? Who are we really working for?________________________________________________________________________

Do you know what God is telling us in these verses? He is

telling us that He sees our work and He cares about it. When

we work, we need to be working for God.

you, watching you work? Would you work differently than you

normally do?

The Blessing of WorkDo you remember what God's path of blessing is to get food,

money, clothes, and the things we need?

____________________________________Do you remember how sin affected work? Sin made work hard.

Because we live in a sinful world, sometimes people cannot

work to get the things they need.

But whoever has the world's __ __ __ __ __, and seeshis brother in __ __ __ __ and closes his __ __ __ __ __against him, how does the __ __ __ __ of God abide inhim? Little children, let us not love with word or withtongue, but in __ __ __ __ and in __ __ __ __ __.

where it is hard for

How can we help people

who want to work, but

Doing Good WorksGod is pleased and glorified when we work hard to serve other

 people.

Read the verses below about doing good works. Then, match

them up with what they teach us about good works.

Ephesians 2:8

Acts 20:35

Matthew 5:16

Hebrews 6:10

Hebrews 13:16

We are saved

by faith, not by

good works.

It is better to give

than to receive.

When people see our

good works, they will

glorify God.

God remembers our

good works.

God is pleased when

we do good and

share.

Super Secret Assignment:Ask God to show you a way that you could glorify Him

by doing something kind for someone else today.

Then, do it quietly. See what God can do as He works

through you and as you willingly work for Him.

2. Tabitha got very sick and sneezed. __________

3. The disciples knew that John was in a near town,so they sent for him to come quickly.  ___________

Honoring Those Who WorkAmong Us

The Bible reminds us, however, that there are some people

who have been working for us. We need to appreciate them

and honor them for their work.

Read 1 Thessalonians 5:1213This passage reminds us to appreciate the people who are

working to teach us the Word of God.

On the lines below, write down the names of some people who

are working hard to teach you about the Bible. (Don't write

down "Sunday School Teachers". Instead, write the name of

your Sunday School teacher, pastor, parents, or Awana leaders

anyone who is teaching you the Bible.) _________________   __________________________________   __________________________________   _________________As you finish reading this passage in 1 Thessalonians, notice

the different ways that you can appreciate your teachers (for

17, be thankful in verse 18).

people from your list and write them a quick note, thanking them for teaching you God's Word and lettingthem know that you are praying for them. You can use

We have already learned that God's path of blessing to getting the things we need is through work. However, Satan

A Hard-Working MissionaryPaul was a missionary. He worked hard to teach people about God's

plan of salvation through the death and resurrection of God's perfect

Son, Jesus.

Because Paul was a missionary and spent much of his time

traveling, preaching, and teaching, churches that he had started

often sent him money to help support him in his ministry.

However, Paul also worked hard to support himself at different times.

Even though he didn't have to, Paul worked hard to earn enough

money for himself and to support some of the people who were

traveling with him so that he would not be a burden on others. He did

this to set an example for us.

chosen to love us. God wants us to grow in love for Him as we spend time with Him, getting to know Him through His Word and prayer. When we are too "busy" to pray or read the Bible, we are making our work (or play!) an idol. Mary

A Man Who Wouldn't Give Up!Today's story is about a man named Nehemiah who wouldn't

give up. Nehemiah was the king's own cupbearer. He was upset

because he had heard that his people, the Jews, were in danger

in Jerusalem because the walls had been broken down. The

people in Jerusalem could not defend themselves from their

enemies.

Read Nehemiah 2:18The King Artaxerxes sent Nehemiah back to Jerusalem to build the walls. The king even gave Nehemiah some of the supplies he needed! When Nehemiah got to Jerusalem and started

building the wall, the enemies of the Jews became very angry.

Read Nehemiah 4:14The enemies of the Jews mocked or teased the people who were working hard, but Nehemiah and the Jews didn't stop working or

give up. They kept on building.Can you match the characters in this story with their descriptions?

Nehemiah and the Jews didn't give up the work of building the

Read Nehemiah 4:68The wall was half built and the Jews' enemies were angry!

They threatened to come and attack the people who were busy

working. Would this stop Nehemiah?

Read Nehemiah 4:916Nehemiah prayed and asked God for protection. Then, he

armed the workers so they would be ready in case of a

God's Work in CreationI hope that by now you know that God has called us to work.

The creation of the world by God is the starting point for the Bible and the foundation of the Christian faith. God

has a right to be the supreme ruler of the universe because He created it. He has

determined what is right and what is wrong because He

made the world.

Did you know... that Jesus Christ was working with God when God created the world? John 1:13 says, "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come

into being." The Word is another name for Jesus!

Jesus Worked When We Could NotWhen God created the world, He made it perfect. However,

God gave Adam and Eve a choice. They could choose to obey

God, or they could choose to reject Him as their authority and

disobey Him. Adam and Eve chose to reject God and sin.

Since Adam and Eve, every human being ever born (except

Jesus Christ, God's own Son) has been born a sinner. Even

one sin, one little "white lie", one moment of pride, one second

of selfish anger in our hearts, is disobedience against the all

powerful Creator God.

God is perfectly holy and just. He cannot allow any sin to come

into His presence.
