  • Module 1Working in Infrastructure Mode

  • Infrastructure ModeIn this mode all the host computers communicate with each other through access point.Infrastructure mode can be selected using interface provided with WLAN card on each host computer. The network shown in the figure is also known as Basic Service Set (BSS).

  • Module 2Communicating using Ad-Hoc Mode

  • Ad-Hoc ModeThis feature allows host computers to communicate with each other without having any access point in the network.

This facility can be chosen by selecting Ad-Hoc mode on each host computer through wireless card interface.

  • Module 3DHCP ModeIn DHCP environment each host can communicate with other host/s using access point as it does in infrastructure mode. However in DHCP mode access point dynamically assign IP address to each host computer connected to it.

  • Module 4Wired with Wireless CommunicationA host computer on wireless network can access another computer or network facility such as printer on wired network.

This communication is achieved through access point which is connected to the wired network.

  • Module 5WEP-enabled Mode This option enhances the security of WLAN and the devices connected to the network.A host computer has to provide WEP key to access wireless network. This key is an alphanumeric character string.

  • WEP-enabled Mode

  • Module 6MAC Address FilteringThis feature also enhances the security of the wireless network by filtering unwanted MAC addresses and securing wireless network from several types of attacks. It allows AP (Access Point) to restrict or grant host computer to access the network and or network facilities.
