Transfer Info

Must have an AA , AS or AFA Degree degree from aCommunity College before the first day of classes at WPU at Mercer in order for all transfer credits to be accepted.

60 transfer credits maximum accepted from a 2 year or community college.

Must validate your AA , AS or AFA degree by sending the Admissions Department a final transcript with your degree posted on it by October 15, 2019. (Referenced on the cover letter in your Student Packet).

The World Language Requirement

In keeping with William Paterson University’s mission to graduate students who embody “active involvement in a multicultural world,” all students are required to demonstrate competency in a language other than English, either by 1) completing up to six (6) credits of a single world language (or American Sign Language), or 2) by demonstrating, via a test, intermediate proficiency in the selected language.

It is to the student’s advantage to take the placement test. You might be waived from the language requirement!

Students who wish to fulfill the world language requirement by taking a proficiency test have the following options:

Challenge Exam, Transfer credits, NYU Proficiency Test, Exemptions

The WPU@Mercer Psychology Club/Psi Chi Honors Society

The Psychology Club plays an important role in providing members with the skills and resources to excel in their careers and better serve their community. Participation in the psychology club is the best way to meet fellow students with similar interests and goals. Some of these fellow students become lifelong friends.

At each meeting, club members share and discuss ideas and opportunities for research in psychology, as well as internships in the field of psychology.

Each year the club organizes and hosts:

A free Graduate School / G.R.E. seminar workshop, run by the Princeton Review services.

A guest speaker in the field of professional/clinical psychology.

A Social Outreach Event, such as the annual National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Walk.

All you need to join Psi Chi is a 3.0 GPA in Psychology, a 3.0

GPA overall, and 9 credits already taken at WPU.

M.A., Higher Education Administration

The Master's degree in Higher Education Administration at William Paterson University is an advanced and in-depth study of the history, structure, organization and administration of colleges and universities in the United States. The program is designed to enhance the professional and career development of current and future managers, leaders and executives within institutions of higher education.

The part-time program is run using a cohort model (a prescribed two year, part-time sequence in which all candidates take the same two courses each semester), with classes given in the fall, spring and summer semesters, utilizing face-to-face/hybrid evening courses as well as online courses. A full-time option became available in Fall 2018.

During the capstone course for all concentrations, students carry out a research project in a higher education workplace setting which allows them to demonstrate the practical application of higher education administration theory. Students will also develop a professional e-portfolio aligned with the Professional Competency Areas for Student Affairs Practitioners developed by the American College Personnel Association (ACPA) and Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education (NASPA).
