O�ce hours for the College are 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. All o�ces will be closed December 19 - January 1, 2017.

Face-to-Face CoursesTuition is $230 per semester hour (SH) or $150 to audit. �e Center for Leadership and Professional Development will send you a reminder email titled “ED (course number and title) Con�rmed to Run” including a campus map link approximately 7 days before class.

Online Courses�ese courses are completed at your own pace. You are NOT required to be online at any set time during your course (they are asynchronous).

GRADES & FINAL PROJECTSAudit CoursesODE will not accept Audit courses for license renewal. �e project/paper is not required when you take a course as an Audit however you will receive an o�cial transcript upon completion. You must call the o�ce to enroll as an audit student.

Face-to-Face CoursesStudents have two weeks from the completion of the course to submit the assignment directly to the instructor. Instructors have two weeks to grade the assignment and submit grades to LEC. It is your responsibility to con�rm that your instructor received your �nal project/paper. Courses may be taken for a Letter Grade, Pass/Fail or an Audit. Requests for ANY change of status must be made by the end of the �rst day of a face to face class. Requests for changes after this date will NOT be permitted.

GRADES & FINAL PROJECTS - Face-to-faceYou may transfer your paid registration to another course o�ered the SAME semester without any additional fee assessed if you notify us at least two weeks before the course runs. �e Center for Leadership and Professional Development must be contacted via email or phone before the class begins informing us of an emergency/cancellation. Non-attendance of a Face to Face course will result in the grade of an F. You must attend all scheduled hours of a two day class.

Learn how to create engaging and dynamic literacy units that are aligned to ODE reading, writing, speaking and listening standards. �e units are integrated across content to support reading and writing about social studies in elementary classrooms. You will create reading guides to support di�erentiated experiences, using the same text, for your entire class through paired readings, close reading strategies and meaningful integration of technology with Chromebooks and Google Docs. You will leave the workshop with di�erentiated reading guides that are ready to use in your classroom. A program has developed for each grade level from kindergarten through 8 at various programing areas of Lake Metroparks. �is class will showcase how the STEM based programs at Lake Metroparks can be integrated into your curriculum. Participate in hands-on activities that correlate to the Ohio Science, Math, Social Studies and Language Arts Standards, and learn how to integrate science, history, and math into STEM-based lessons. In this course, the biological foundations of behavior will be introduced and instructional implications for the classroom explored. Topics to be covered include: the relationship between behavior and the brain with an emphasis on neuroplasticity; emotions and mental disorders; the chemistry of the brain; the impact of hormones on the brain and behavior; and attention.

At the end of this course, participants will have an enhanced understanding of the relationship between brain development and behavior. Participants will also be introduced to various classroom strategies that pay special attention to the relationship between brain development and behavior. Attention educators familiar with the bene�ts (as well as the drawbacks) of tackling blended approaches to learning. In this course we will make sense of the big picture with a clear aim toward purposeful applications of this powerful method, albeit limited at times. Together we will gain deeper insight into framing practical, creative problem-based blended learning challenges. We will focus on supporting student learning needs, increasing positive impact on learning experiences, and optimizing learning outcomes – as guided by ODE’s Blended Learning Model. Topics include applications such as project-based learning, personalized learning, competency-based learning, service learning, STEM, and STEAM. Individual research and lesson planning will be embedded into our meeting time.

Required prerequisite: Google It! Using Google Apps in the Classroom or comparable content (contact Director). Now that you are using Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, Forms, and Drawings, come and explore some alternative uses of each of these, especially creation of digital assessment items that mirror AIR-like experiences. We will also examine some of the other Google apps like Sites, Calendar, Blogger, and more. Participants will maximize the functions Google Apps by including add-ons and Chrome extensions. We will also check out web tools like Versal, Edmodo, and PearDeck that lay nicely with the Google Apps and help teachers create a seamless blended learning environment. By the end of the class, participants will create lessons to use in the classroom or in the spirit of Google’s 20% time, work on a project they design to increase use of Google apps in their educational settings. ED 7012 Google It Too! Using Even More Google Apps in the Classroom

In this era of standards and accountability, it is far too easy to overlook the needs of gifted and advanced students, or to understand their sometimes perplexing attitudes and behaviors. �is workshop will introduce teachers to the basic characteristics of gifted learners of all ages and suggest some strategies for ensuring that their needs – academic, social, and emotional – are met at school �is workshop is appropriate for all teachers grades K-12 who teach heterogeneous, cluster-grouped, or advanced classes. In-class activities include lecture, discussion, sharing, and video interviews with gifted learners. �e follow-up project will emphasize application of these concepts to teachers’ current professional settings, students, and responsibilities. ED 7013 Teaching to the Top: Introduction to Understandingand Meeting the Needs of Gifted Students

Friday, April 7 ( 5 p.m. - 9 p.m.) and Saturday, April 8 ( 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.)

Exploring the stories, music and dance from the cultures of our students is not a mere addendum to the curriculum. �e value of using these experiences and materials native to our students has a lasting e�ect on all the students and a deep personal e�ect on the student who shares a piece of her cultural heritage. In this course we will explore music, folk dance, folk tales and creativity to better understand and add cultural richness to our classroom. Speci�cally we will discuss using resources that re�ect the heritage of the students in our classes possibly involving the students and families as teachers and "ambassadors" to our classroom. �rough active participation (singing, playing small percussion instruments and folk dancing) we will learn these new materials and work together in small groups to re�ne our own lessons and curriculum. 4/5 Early Childhood Generalist EndorsementLake Erie College o�ers a 9-credit Early Childhood Generalist Endorsement for early childhood licensure candidates or teachers who hold a PreK-3rd grade license. After completion of coursework, candidates are required to take the OAE Elementary Education subtests (018 and 019). �is endorsement can be completed at the undergraduate level and allows candidates the opportunity to teach in PreK-5th grade classrooms.

MILD-MODERATE INTERVENTION SPECIALIST LICENSELake Erie College o�ers fully online post-baccalaureate courses that lead to Mild-Moderate Intervention Specialist Licensure. �ese courses are designed for already licensed teachers, or those eligible for licensure, who are seeking to teach children in grades K-12 with mild-moderate disabilities and educational needs in a variety of inclusive settings. Reading endorsementReading Endorsements at Lake Erie College include 15 semester hours of instruction with classroom based �eldwork integrated throughout the program. Helping students learn to communicate – reading, writing, listening, speaking and visual literacy – is one of the greatest challenges facing teachers, especially given the linguistic and cultural diversity of today’s classroom. Courses in the program are designed to ful�ll requirements for the graduate reading endorsement (P-12). �e program is aligned to the International Reading Association (IRA) standards, the guidelines set forth by the Ohio Board of Regents and includes the methods, strategies, and techniques recommended for recognizing and teaching students diagnosed with Dyslexia.

�e Reading Endorsement may be added to any standard teaching license, including Early Childhood, Middle Childhood, Intervention Specialist, Adolescence to Young Adult (AYA), and Multi-Age License. Lake Erie College o�ers you the �exibility of completing your reading endorsement completely online.

A fully online program, the TESOL Endorsement is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission and can be o�ered in a hybrid format for a cohort of 10 or more students. �e program consists of 18 credits hours taken through 6 courses,including a semester-long practicum that can be completed in your own classroom, within your own building or through a placement we arrange for you to work with English as a Second Language (ESL) students in the local area.

�e State of Ohio requires 100 �eld hours. In our TESOL Endorsement program, these hours are spread throughout the coursework and the �nal practicum. A passing score of 220 or higher on OAE 021 English to Speakers of Other Languages exam is required for the endorsement. Tuition is $499/semester hour. Total for 6 courses is $8,982. We strongly suggest applying for the T.E.A.C.H. Grant to help fund your endorsement.
